I'm looking for free and open alternatives to the Leftist BigTech platforms that is biased and censors conservative users. I mainly use Gab and Minds and while I think Gab looks promising it still doesn't seem to very relevant in the larger public debate, that is still very dominated by Twitter and Facebook.
Parler is mentioned by many and seems to be more popular than Gab and Minds. Is anyone using it here and how effective do you think it is to reach people of different opinions, such as Biden voters? I tried to register an account on Parler earlier but I was turned off because it requires a cellphone number. I like to remain as anonymous as possible.
Another thing that makes me skeptic to use Parler is that it is not open for people without an account. If it's not publicly viewable it seems to me that it will just become an echo chamber that will have a negative impact on conservatives outreach to normies in the public debate. What do you think of this decision from Parler and do you think it can be effective to change normie peoples opinions?
Last time I was on Parler, maybe four months ago, it was still a Trump-supporting echo chamber. That's its primary weakness right now.
The only reason I was on Twitter was to give progressives hell, especially journalists, and help boost hashtags. That shit was fun. There's none of that on Parler, unfortunately.
Edit: I should add that you should sign up for Parler. We're coming to a time when we could be completely censored by Big Tech. We may need places to communicate with our own, even if it's not as fun as Twitter.
Yes. I'm on Parler, I like it, but it needs to expand from just conservative voices. It's slowly happening, some people are posting recipes and other things but yeah. It's 95% conservative politics right now.
I love Parler.
I’m on Parler. I like it. It needs more users. When I get bored with the_donald, I go on Parler.
Nah.
i had a few problems with it and left after about 3 months. First, it was impossible to make any direct connections with people. Nobody interacted with my posts however, everyone fully expected to have interaction on their posts. There were a few "popular" feeds that everyone subscribed to. There were also a few that were becoming popular by gaming the use of the website / web service. They would follow you, but only to get you to follow them and like their posts, and they ignored you completely. Gab is about the same. Their login captcha was almost impossible to pass. Their mobile app forced updates on me almost every single week. Which was not acceptable to me.
They require your phone number in order to register. Not interested.
