I see everyone else's stories about people that are voting R for the first time this election. Well my family is from the middle east. My mom and dad moved here in the late 70s but I was born here. They never felt the interest to vote. I was so surprised a month ago when my mom asked me to register her to vote as a Republican. She also asked me to show her how to do it because she had 2 friends who wanted to vote Republican as well. They didn't particularly like Republicans of the past because they kept poking their fingers in the middle east. But they like Trump because he's finally trying to get out of there against the wishes of the military industrial complex. So there you have it, 3 more Republican voters in deep blue California that weren't there before! You never know what kind of unexpected allies you can have for a President that genuinely wants peace for a change.

Persian West LA?

TEXinLA 37 points ago +37 / -0

Lots of Persians in Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles.

Many settled after the Iranian Revolution (Shah of Iran's overthrow).

There are lots of stories like this.

Don't believe the media.

There are more people registering to vote for Trump than for Biden.

The only way the Dems win is if they cheat or if you don't vote, so obviously vote, in person.

Make sure her two friends get registered too.

I hear tons of stories like this and also liberals that are not voting democrat if their life depended on it.

What I don’t understand is how to reconcile this with the polls. I know you can’t trust them - I just don’t get why they’re even further out of whack with reality than 4 years ago.

18
UndercoverSpez 18 points ago +18 / -0

From my understanding quite a few polls have weighed the results because they are expecting a very large turnout of voters. Then again I think gallup last week said they dont expect a large turout at all. So who knows.

16
BarneyFrank 16 points ago +16 / -0

It sounds logical to think there will be a big turnout. You don’t hear too many people say “I have no opinion about Trump whatsoever.”

3
UndercoverSpez 3 points ago +5 / -2

I dont dissagree, but if there is a high turnout that gurts Trump because there are more Democrats than Republicans

3
BarneyFrank 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yep, this is why we need to drag every single person with a pulse out to vote. Don’t ignore the polls! Don’t be complacent! We have had the best time both here and in our former home from before Trump won the nomination and if we lose in November, all this is over. Don’t miss the opportunity to save everything we value.

3
swanzinator 3 points ago +3 / -0

Except I know for a fact that many registered Dems are gonna be pulling the lever for Trump this time. That’s also supported by the high number of Dems attending Trump rallies.

16
MadLibs 16 points ago +16 / -0

I imagine that the rationale is that people will tend to follow the majority opinion. If they make it look like everyone hates Trump, then that "must be the right way to think" in the eyes of idiot lemmings. But the manipulative pollsters underestimate the intelligence of Americans.

Congrats to your Mom and her friends, I hope they realized it is more than just a vote for the Great President Trump, it is literally choosing Good over Evil.

His getting the ball seriously rolling for peace in the Middle East is probably one of the biggest reasons I’m super pumped for him. I’m sure there are a lot more families like yours that are in the same boat.

My little corner of Northern California has been blowing my mind with all the MAGA flags everywhere. There was a little old lady that set up a recall Newsom table with a huge MAGA flag. I went and introduced myself and said half jokingly, "thanks for doing this, I admire your bravery ". And she told me that 99% has been very positive. I would not have believed this possible a year ago.

Please vote Republican for the U.S. house and the state seats. Trump needs the house to get his agenda through.

4
DJT2020 4 points ago +4 / -0

And we also need to keep the senate.

16
I_no_asshoe 16 points ago +16 / -0

Amazing! 2 things that might help you, your mom and her friends:

1). Look at your local republican group (Facebook is a good place to find them) to get an idea about local measures on the ballot. The way those are written can be very confusing. The Repubs usually have a decent breakdown that is easier to grasp.

2). Vote early and in person. Mail-in ballots especially in states where mail in is new may be tricky to fill out properly. Election judges can help with casting a ballot properly in voting centers.

MAGA ON you sexy patriots!!

I’m in Los Angeles and I have this very strange feeling that California will flip red. Something is happening here...

1
IneligibleBachelor78 1 point ago +1 / -0

No, politics don't change overnight. It took western Pennsylvania 32 years to flip from "Mondale country" to "Trump country," so there's no way California is going to flip this year, or even this decade. In the short term, forget about flipping California, and just make sure you and other like-minded people you know vote, so we can take the stupid "popular vote" cudgel away from the Democrats. You can flip California once a steady Republican trend gains momentum for an extended period of time.

3
BlondeBombshell88 3 points ago +3 / -0

I dunno, I’m in Koreatown which is minority heavy, as well as a bunch of local Facebook groups and Nextdoor etc. people in LA are MAD about how bad it’s gotten here. All races, all walks of life mad as hell over how our city looks right now.

As a white national born American, I'm in the same place. Trump has changed politics. Go vote!

5
RUFishing 5 points ago +5 / -0

Me and my fiance have never voted in a presidential election. I'm 40 and she's 28. In the early days of meeting we discussed the '16 election and I showed her a few politcal compass charts. I told her I was libertarian. After reading a bit about each belief system she said she was anarchocapatalist:) We didn't vote, but since then I found r/the_donald and then of course the donald.win!! And I found how biased the media is. I was here at .win very early but they didn't require an email and i've since lost my password. (If you have any thoughts of how to recover my actual account i would be grateful!) Anyway we are both voting Donald J. Trump 2020!!!!

5
RosettaStone 5 points ago +5 / -0

And that's why the debate moderators never bring up foreign policy.

The last four Presidents were warmongers. Trump is a peacemaker. The people like that.

Out of curiosity where does your mother and her friends get their news? Do they read/watch our shit or papers from your native country? I’m curious how foreign media have covered Trump’s deal brokering in the Middle East.

Glad to hear in any event.

The reminds me of my boss's husband. He's persian and is voting R this year. He said what did it for him was BLM and the dems endorsing that. He said the two things he has seen that remind him of BLM/antifa are the Iranian revolutionaries (he fled them) and the taliban.

3
horsefacestorm 3 points ago +3 / -0

Cool story, I'm in a similar situation. My wife's family came here in 1980 from Laos, and my wife already registered her Mom to vote Trump.

3
HocusLocus 3 points ago +3 / -0

Tell your Mom: "Register Trumpublican today and you will also get a free 'Plush John Bolton neocon-on-a-string pincushion' to keep all your knitting needles and pins and tacks in one place, When you pull the ring John says, 'Get their oil! Build a pipeline! Make it look like a revolution!' No batteries (or oil) required." Or not, just smile.

I live in this commiefornia as well. I didn't vote last election cause I live here, but if anything I want to deprive these insufferable liberals of their "muh popular vote" argument. I have also convinced my entire family to vote for Trump (+6 votes total). It's time to send a message to liberals.
