I am an independent. Mine was the BLM riots, anti-white hate campaign, and discovery of Critical Race Theory. It happened pretty much all at once for me.
I had several that led to a gradual drift to the other side. The first "something is wrong here" moment was Charlie Hebdo. I saw people unironically saying they shouldn't have insulted Islam and that was the first time I saw irrefutable proof that being offensive was as bad in their eyes as being a murderer.
Still didn't vote in 2016 because Orange Man Racist. But over time I just saw how much of what he was saying was being twisted by the media. "They aren't people, they're animals." A racist statement when directed at Mexico, but in context it was actually directed at a notorious gang that could accurately be described as animals. Shit like that made me assume everything the media says is bullshit unless proven otherwise.
The moment that made me say "no more democrats ever" was Kavanaugh. Voted red all the way after that. I was so absolutely disgusted that the dems would weaponize a movement like that against a supreme court nominee purely because Trunp was the one who appointed him.
Everything after Kavanaugh just reaffirmed that I was right to leave the democratic party. Fuck them.
