We need to fix a market rate to words. My dad called them "tenpenny words", but by the time I was an adult adjusted inflation made them "ten dollar words", but here you are saying they're only worth three dollars.

That gives us: approximately $34,000 a year (averaging private school with public costs), most people take 4 years of English in college (indeed, in most places it's mandatory), 34% of Americans have at least a four year degree, there are 170,000 "in use" words (including "persnickety", meaning overly obsessed with small details like the cost of words, but excluding obsolete, forgotten, or replaced words, like "finickity" instead of "finicky", "wherefore" instead of "why", etc.), and 30,000 "common use" words that we all share as English speakers (such as "and", "as", "the", etc. -- words you hardly need to go to college to learn.)

My best friend was functionally illiterate until he got his GED in jail. Yeah, my best friend was a petty criminal at one time. I knew him since I was 14, and I stood by him when he made a series of stupid mistakes that got him locked up for 18 months. Never made excuses for him, but visited him a few times and encouraged him to straighten out. He got his GED while in jail. Until that point, he could "read," but only simple things like street signs and short notes. He started writing me notes from jail, and they gradually got longer and more deep, and grammatically correct. He straightened out his life, and died tragically in a car accident a few years later. I believe God took him at the time that he was most prepared for Judgment. At his funeral, 200 people came, all talking about the various charitable things he had done for them in secret. RIP my friend.
tldr: my friend was functionally illiterate until he took the initiative to learn how to read in jail.

Every night before bed, I pray the Our Father with my wife, and then after I have laid down, I make the sign of the Cross and say the prayer, "Lord, into Thy hands do I commend my Spirit," echoing the words of Our Savior on the Cross. This is something many, although not all, Orthodox Christians do before retiring for the night.
My friend suffered greatly in his life, which is partly why he temporarily took the wrong path. There were many in my life who criticized me for continuing to be his friend. I understand their concerns; "a man is judged by the company he keeps," "surround yourself with successful people and you will be successful." There is quite a happy end to the story. I can't be too detailed, as I don't want to be doxed, but I ended up marrying into his family after his death. He will forever be a part of me.
I don't anymore, but I used to live close enough to have a taste of it. There were some really, really dumb kids in there, and they (mostly) fell along the demographic lines you'd expect.

My family had to adopt FOUR kids from another relative, the oldest going through first grade for a second time. When asked why the oldest did not know their alphabet, they responded "The school teaches them that". 😐
The kids were like wild animals when we got them, and the oldest one is barely - BARELY starting to learn how to read now in his second year of first grade and the teachers are like "whatever". I was reading Apple computer manuals that were laying around the house at that age (seriously).
One of the kids has trouble with speech - however, the youngest who is not even old enough for pre-K, can read and nearly do math, simply because we got her so young and started helping her.
Also all of them are happily learning about Jesus, the USA and our President, things which they would not have gotten before. 😎
These kids are 80 IQ. Literally can't be taught academically. We need to be honest with ourselves as a nation, and clear a path to employment for this segment of the country. The illegals have taken all the low skill jobs that this sector once occupied. Clear out the illegals, so that this underserved segment has a way to make a living. They are Americans too.

I don't even know. I'm just a speech therapist, I wasn't even taught about how to teach reading and most language skills. 90% of my job is teaching 5th and 6th graders how to form grammatically correct sentences.
Part of it is totally cultural and therefore completely acceptable. We have to know the difference between a language difference and a language disorder and it's actually illegal to "fix" a cultural language difference. The other part is lack of parent education, most of these parents barely have a high school education and more than half my schools parents are non English speaking which is harder for those special ed kiddos who already have a learning or language disorder.
I was in a Duane Reade in Manhattan, and a manager was training a clerk. She could not make change. She’d get as far as ringing up, taking the money, and then she’s have to give back something like 67 cents, and she couldn’t figure out the correct combo of coins. This person was not Down Syndrome or didn’t otherwise appear disabled. She was just a completely uneducated 20-something. The manager seemed completely befuddled, but I have to give him credit, he was all in on teaching her elementary school math and logic. Very sad.

The KJB actually is easier to read companred to all modern translations and as a matter of fact you're supposed to read the Bible outloud.
Read some Psalms outloud in the KJV, reads better than Shakespeare. Also there is an actual harmonic rhythm and meditative process in how it was translated via the Textus Reciptus to read like the ancient languages they where translated from.
Then Jesus said meditate on the word, He was literal - becuase reading it outloud actually has a scientific property to bring your brain into a meditative rhythmic state.
Also the KJB reads as a 4th grade level vs the flowery "modern ones" which literally take out whole verses.
When analysed - the KJV is the most easy to read and teach from.
The NIV in numerous passages actually have stark errors that take out the divinity of both Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

You are precisely correct. I keep telling my kin and ilk to not read any other version besides the KJV. Words have a scalar quality. The Holy Bible is a UTILITY, a "counter-prayer" against the evil spells that are cast against us 24/7 by the PTB. Reading other "dumbed down" versions is to lose the potency of the words.
If you're ever confused as to why those who transcribed the Bible felt the "need" to give you name, number, name, number, name, number... it is a meditative prayer and it WILL deliver you from the spells cast on you - i.e. social programming and mental malware/brainwashing.

I did some cursory research into the different versions recently (as part of the lead-up to a historiographical reading of the Bible for funsies, as soon as I finish working through a pile of Bronze-age archaeological and historical prep material), and was unsettled by the variety of recent seemingly-arbitrary translations that I could clearly tell had an agenda, though what agenda was beyond my sphere of knowledge.
Who are the people behind the NLT? How would I be able to tell if they are "actually" Christian? I was recommended by another pede years ago to read the Bible using the NLT translation because it's easy to get into.
I did notice looking at NLT and comparing it to a different physical version I have that the verses you mentioned at the beginning are missing. This confuses and concerns me. Why remove Matthew 18:11?

I understand what you mean now. Thank you so much, I never would have realized this otherwise. Matthew 18:11 was really strange for me, but it's unforgivable for these translators to remove so many instances of Christ's love for us without some motivator. It makes Him seem cold. For their intention of capturing the "emotion" of God's Word instead of literal translation, they left out His Love.
And that I cannot condone.

My family had to adopt FOUR kids from another relative, the oldest going through first grade for a second time. When asked why the oldest did not know their alphabet, they responded "The school teaches them that". 😐
The kids were like wild animals when we got them, and the oldest one is barely - BARELY starting to learn how to read now in his second year of first grade and the teachers are like "whatever". I was reading Apple computer manuals that were laying around the house at that age (seriously).
One of the kids has trouble with speech - however, the youngest who is not even old enough for pre-K, can read and nearly do math, simply because we got her so young and started helping her.
Also all of them are happily learning about Jesus, the USA and our President, things which they would not have gotten before. 😎

These kids are 80 IQ. Literally can't be taught academically. We need to be honest with ourselves as a nation, and clear a path to employment for this segment of the country. I don't even know. I'm just a speech therapist, I wasn't even taught about how to teach reading and most language skills. 90% of my job is teaching 5th and 6th graders how to form grammatically correct sentences.
Part of it is totally cultural and therefore completely acceptable. We have to know the difference between a language difference and a language disorder and it's actually illegal to "fix" a cultural language difference. The other part is lack of parent education, most of these parents barely have a high school education and more than half my schools parents are non English speaking which is harder for those special ed kiddos who already have a learning or language disorder.

I was in a Duane Reade in Manhattan, and a manager was training a clerk. She could not make change. She’d get as far as ringing up, taking the money, and then she’s have to give back something like 67 cents, and she couldn’t figure out the correct combo of coins. This person was not Down Syndrome or didn’t otherwise appear disabled. She was just a completely uneducated 20-something. The manager seemed completely befuddled, but I have to give him credit, he was all in on teaching her elementary school math and logic. Very sad.

Many words and even whole verses removed.

You are precisely correct. I keep telling my kin and ilk to not read any other version besides the KJV. Words have a scalar quality. The Holy Bible is a UTILITY, a "counter-prayer" against the evil spells that are cast against us 24/7 by the PTB. Reading other "dumbed down" versions is to lose the potency of the words.
If you're ever confused as to why those who transcribed the Bible felt the "need" to give you name, number, name, number, name, number... it is a meditative prayer and it WILL deliver you from the spells cast on you - i.e. social programming and mental malware/brainwashing.

Who are the people behind the NLT? How would I be able to tell if they are "actually" Christian? I was recommended by another pede years ago to read the Bible using the NLT translation because it's easy to get into.
I did notice looking at NLT and comparing it to a different physical version I have that the verses you mentioned at the beginning are missing. This confuses and concerns me. Why remove Matthew 18:11?

I understand what you mean now. Thank you so much, I never would have realized this otherwise. Matthew 18:11 was really strange for me, but it's unforgivable for these translators to remove so many instances of Christ's love for us without some motivator. It makes Him seem cold. For their intention of capturing the "emotion" of God's Word instead of literal translation, they left out His Love.
And that I cannot condone.

I get a bit pissed off whenever there's a link to reddit here on T_D.win and I click on it unwittingly.
I wish .win would host every kind of topic so I could leave reddit for good. I still enjoy appreciating good photography and discussing which stocks are likely to do well, and there's still no other place to do that.
