I was in a Duane Reade in Manhattan, and a manager was training a clerk. She could not make change. She’d get as far as ringing up, taking the money, and then she’s have to give back something like 67 cents, and she couldn’t figure out the correct combo of coins. This person was not Down Syndrome or didn’t otherwise appear disabled. She was just a completely uneducated 20-something. The manager seemed completely befuddled, but I have to give him credit, he was all in on teaching her elementary school math and logic. Very sad.
