Who are the people behind the NLT? How would I be able to tell if they are "actually" Christian? I was recommended by another pede years ago to read the Bible using the NLT translation because it's easy to get into.
I did notice looking at NLT and comparing it to a different physical version I have that the verses you mentioned at the beginning are missing. This confuses and concerns me. Why remove Matthew 18:11?
Thank you for your well wishes and blessings, pede.
I understand what you mean now. Thank you so much, I never would have realized this otherwise. Matthew 18:11 was really strange for me, but it's unforgivable for these translators to remove so many instances of Christ's love for us without some motivator. It makes Him seem cold. For their intention of capturing the "emotion" of God's Word instead of literal translation, they left out His Love.
And that I cannot condone.
Thank you so much again. God bless you and your family and may we all make it out safe in these trying times.
It's amazing how after so many years on TD I still manage to get red pilled!

Specific examples.
Luke 9:56 KJV For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Luke 9:56 NIV (removed the aspect of Christs Mercy by taking out the first part)
and they went to another village.
Matt. 18:11 (removed from the NIV completely )
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
I Cor. 5:7 KJV ...Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
I Cor. 5:7 NIV (why take out us?) ...Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed
Mark 3:15KJV
...power to heal sickness, and to cast out devils.
Mark 3:15 NIV (takes out completely the aspect of Christ's disciples to heal in the NIV) ...authority to drive out demons.
