That sounds crazy--and I believe every word of it. I did some cursory research into the different versions recently (as part of the lead-up to a historiographical reading of the Bible for funsies, as soon as I finish working through a pile of Bronze-age archaeological and historical prep material), and was unsettled by the variety of recent seemingly-arbitrary translations that I could clearly tell had an agenda, though what agenda was beyond my sphere of knowledge.
