Everyone hates America until someone gets all up in their shit. Then it's, "Hey America ole buddy old pal. Come help us out with your superior military."
The EU and everyone in it can go fuck themselves. Americans have been getting the raw end of the deal for decades, and now that we’re forcing these countries to hold up their end of the bargain, they want to piss and moan and act like they’re being bullied. Well tough titties. Pay for your own military bases and missile defense systems then if you don’t like it.
Europeans have a very warped view of Americans. They want to believe in their own superiority in all things.
True story:
When my daughter was 16 -- she frequently posted on a board that was mostly populated by European teens. One day, one of them asked for homework help in French and asked a specific question. It so happened that my daughter qualified for the French National Honor Society because of her top grades in the subject. So she gave the girl the correct answer.
Within a few hours, there were dozens of posts telling the girl not to listen to my daughter because she was an American and "everybody knows" Americans don't know anything. They admitted they didn't have an answer for the girl -- but said it was "impossible" for an American to know something they didn't.
My daughter didn't bother responding to the string further -- but later in the week the original poster informed them that the American was correct.
So you see -- it's more than just this recent political stuff. The belittling of America and Americans has been going on for decades and they teach it to their children. There's nothing you can do about it except be yourself and let them learn in the end that you are better than they thought.

It's "Americans are bad!" until they need something from us.
