We have on our hands a great example of a mistake many governments in power make: foolishly attempting to placate the opposition. The opposition are not your friend. Treating them with kid gloves will grant you no civility. Doing them favors will buy you no peace.

The Conservative party is doing the same thing in Great Britain right now, apologizing for statues and historic figures and attempting to appease BLM who doesn’t even have a coherent argument that shows any sort of oppression throughout all of British history. They’ve lost both their new supporters and their base and have seen a -16 pt favorability swing, going from the largest conservative victory in history to being likely to lose the next election.

Parallels nicely with Trump’s Bumpstock ban and suppressor comments.
