By now we've probably all seen the video of the altercation that results in a shooting off-camera, but here's what happened leading up to it. Here's a rough sketch (very) of the area:
Basically the entire scene was calm and peaceful, a group of what left wing people call a "right wing militia group" peacefully crosses a street and heads across a series of buildings and what appears to be a convention center or something similar. As they cross there is no problem whatsoever, no arguments, no chasing, no name calling. This is when the shooter and his presumable security guard start tailing this group. If you re-watch the video a couple times, you notice they initially follow them and the camera loses sight of them because they stayed behind. The part of the video at this moment moves forward past them, walking with the group but the shooter and his company are nowhere to be found. This means they started to follow the group but remained at the location until the shooting happened, which occurred exactly 2 minutes later. 2 minutes later the person recording returns from where they came from realizing a shooting just happened where they had just come from. This is where the video at the 53 minute mark becomes important. You can see the shooter, the guy in the camo hat not the blue shirt, nervously checking his surroundings as they follow this group but for some reason stop following. In the next 120 seconds something happens that leads to verbal confrontation(s) and ultimately the shooting.
One thing to note is in the video of the guy getting shot off camera, the person shot seconds before was not remotely involved with blue shirt or his guard, they were completely off screen in this video and in a mere 7 seconds after crossing the camera before being immediately shot:
So far I've seen all the video angles available and something interesting just came to mind: if the blue shirt guy was an actual journalist he had to be recording the entire time he was walking. If he didn't record the shooting he had no reason to be involved in the altercation and if he did there was no evidence any danger present to him required lethal force, it's all on tape. The blue shirt's video will likely be released days later so this is the best take on the overview of this event we can make for the time being. From what we see in the first video there was no situation that would call for violent response whatsoever. One thing to note is that the shooter aimed for and hit the head area, this is not something a security or trained personnel would ever do, it goes against basic rules of self-defense and common sense in a close distance confrontation. The rest we'll have to wait and see. We're still missing about 30 seconds of footage that occurred about 30 seconds after the marching group passed this location and before the altercation started, but you can see every person involved in the video because there was only around 60 seconds of time where anyone could have even started a confrontation and the camera pans the entire concrete sidewalk.
edit: I'll add another thing that catches my attention, note the posture of the shooter as he trails the civilian militia group:
As someone explained to me once, you can tell a person has a CCW on them by the way they favor one side. Look closely at his fingers in this screenshot and re-watch this scene as they tail the militia group. He does not seem concerned about the person he's supposed to protect one bit, he is however concerned with people getting near his gun.
You have to view the video on YT, the video won't play embedded
In this video we see the complete scene minus the actual shooting, which a different video catches halfway through a confrontation:
