Everyone is replaceable but at a certain cost. I work a position at a job that would be hard to replace. Not impossible but not easy. I used to be the only employee and have carried half of the business on my shoulders. The owner is a cuck, and everyone we've hired is a fucking liberal. I am about to graduate with an engineering degree and start applying elsewhere. I don't have the best work ethic because I've always worked for a mom and pop shop and am an idiot. I've gone from helping carry the business across the finish line to being the odd man out now. I want blood. My goal is to threaten to leave and risk the reference for a pay raise or just keep my head down and sacrifice a year after graduation for perfect attendance and never being late to brainwash the guy so he cant trash my reference with recent history. We are talking about hiring a new guy to do my job because I am in school fulltime and cant handle the work myself. Well we are going into the off season now and I can handle the work. Once we go back into the on season I can handle the work since I wont have to focus on school. What should I do?

The part about "threaten to leave" seems like it's going to cause you problems. It's fine to explain that you're busy with school or whatever. But I think you'd be much better off making the boss think that you're committed, until you have something else lined up.

Great suggestions in other comments here, take on more workload, get a portfolio together, charge consulting fees for anything they need afterward. Write a resume' now, before you quit, with a list of achievements, "improved", "created", "designed", "solved" type of things. Always looks better if the most recent job experience is e.g. "2016 to current".
