First amendment: ".... no prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." There's nothing in the first amendment that says you can't follow so and so religion. There's nothing about christianity. There's nothing in the entire constitution that says anything similar to the ideas you express.
You know how in 1984 people get arrested for thought crimes? That would be like arresting people because you think they may or may not have blind, unthinking loyalty to the regime in the eyes of some people, but they haven't broken a single law. I'm good with locking people up if they actually do something wrong.
Do I like Islam? No. Do I think individuals have the right to assemble or practice whatever religion they want freely until the point they break the law and get arrested? Yes.
You speak about hypocrisy and being better. Yeah I would think it's hypocrisy to claim you hate the world of 1984, disparage China and the left for punishing people over thought crimes, words etc, and advocating it yourself. It works both ways.
The entire point of the freedom of religion was based on how to Worship God, and in peace with others.
If you dont practice peace with others the others have a right by baring arms and destory you.
Islam bares arms to destroy because its in the nature and a rule in its guidebook.
Remember friend. There were no Buddhists, Atheists, Hindus, Satanists, Pagans, Jews, or Muslims that had any say or point of view in the arguement you are making. 90% of the people had very little to no knowledge of Islam and if they did they would have made it clearer.
Almost a vast majority of the founders as well did try like in Connecticuts declaration of Independence to make clear that Jesus Christ was to be acknowledged as the God of creation. And not left so blank stated. For the very reason we speak about it now is what they feared would come. Other false religions zealots and sympathizers who gave way to allowing evil people in and corrupting the ways in which they established.
There is no room in a free country for a "one true religion". If you want religion in government, you'll have to make room for others. If you want to claim "oh that's not what they meant it was quite different back then" then you'd have to concede the same way for the right to bear arms to be limited to muskets and nothing modern. That's not freedom.

That’s because Christianity was synonymous with religion to people back then. The most varied you would get were differences in the interpretation of scripture.
