It would be nice to have a simple required test on basic history with free materials / books as well. There are too many ignorant citizens uneducated on basic history. Millions have died in wars, executions, starvation from failed socialist governments and idiots still think it's a good idea. Those that gave their lives deserve better than to be forgotten.
I remember Kaitlin Bennett / Gun Girl (though she's not my favorite person tbh) did a video where she went and asked people who they wanted to vote for and they said mostly Democrats and then she asked them simple questions about US history and they had no idea at all.
As much as that sounds good, it 100% will be abused. Jim Crow laws were used as ways to keep out educated people by giving local officials the ability to create answers that could go both ways then penalizing the answerer when they inevitably got it wrong.
This would be used the same way to keep out the anti-establishment candidates.
Don't think the constitution applies to illegal aliens? Well you'd be wrong because of court decisions, guess you cannot vote.
Careful. We dont put qualifiers on rights. Well, we shouldn't anyhow. We dont want to have to pass a test to exercise our 2nd amendment rights. Registering to vote is the test. A lot of people dont pass that one
The flip side is with rights comes responsibilities, like contributing to society. If you can vote for bread and circuses and 51% of the population decides that's the way to go, your country will never recover.
Then when 51% of the electoral states have a majority that wants to vote to confiscate the other 49%s wealth. The electoral college does not save us from the tipping point into democratic socialism.
Only land owners should have a vote since they have an obvious alignment of long term goals, i.e. to make the country more propserous. Obvious exceptions include military service, but we have a bunch of people voting nowadays that see the government as a big piggy bank and don't care for it's long term health.
It would be nice to have a simple required test on basic history
But that would perpetuate white supremacy! What about all the people with IQs too low to pass the test, or migrants who don't care about our history and are only here to live off our social safety net? Democrats would be at a disadvantage if they couldn't sell our country out to these people!
We can have immigration again when our unemployment rate reaches zero. A little extremist I know, but a country, any country needs to prioritize it's people before they do anything for the people of a foreign land.
Perfect example? Syrians in Canada. The government up there has been caught in a bunch of scandals the last few years and still maintain good support levels, probably due to Syrians.
Absolutely 100%. The founders could not POSSIBLY have envisioned the nation becoming overrun with manchildren who never grew up at twice the age that their own sons were being sent to serve in the court of the Tzarina of Russia (John Quincy Adams, 14.) They figured "By 18, they'll be married or getting married, starting their own household, they're well informed American men by then!"
General Washington would have surrendered, if he could have seen what we'd do to his legacy...
18 is not too young to drink or buy cigarettes. The fact that we have the highest drinking age in the world except for countries like Qatar is embarrassing. Even cucked Canada is 19.
It was 18, for a while. High-school seniors fucked it up. Seriously. They were buying alcohol and giving it to their minor friends.
Yeah, I know it still isn't much of a barrier. But then, the news had a constant drumbeat of 16-17's that died or fucked themselves up on alcohol their buddy bought for them.
They raised it to 19 in some states. Other states limited people under 21 to 3.2% beer (which tastes horrid). Ultimately, the federal government said: you have to raise it to 21, or we'll cut off your federal highway funds.
They imposed a nationwide 55 mph speed limit the same way.
I turned 18 during that period, but was 21 by the time it was forced on the states.
The country already had this discussion. 18 is the federal voting age because it's the draft age, and the states adopted the federal standard for political and logistical reasons. The mistake here is that women of the same age can vote for whatever without any danger of being sent to war. At least with older men they were in the draft registry when they were younger.
Actually it is. Women vote overwhelmingly left. And they consume overwhelmingly consume tax money while men provide most of it. And left means wealth redistribution.
Nothing you do will ever change that inherent gender based bias. The fair deal is marriage and having your partner supply you as a woman - but with welfare systems and having the ability to vote to force others to gib money, this will never change.
The education system will be corrupt and broken as long as governments hold quasi-monopoly over it.
Fundamentally this is the root of the problem. It's quite simple really: women have a different life strategy hardwired into them. They need other people's resources. Just part of life. They have kids, they are vulnerable during pregnancy and childbirth, and they have to ensure they get the things they need to keep them and their kids alive. This is why women overwhelmingly push for bigger social safety nets and socialist/communist policies.
Realistically, I think it is a tough sell to undo the 19th amendment, although it would fix nearly all of our problems.
I think it is more practical to restrict voting to only land owners, and allow women who own land to vote as well.
Their hypergamous nature also wants a flow of alpha men coming in so that they can be sure they're with the best man. Hence open borders and muh diversity. There's a huge reason past societies didn't have women voting.
Unfortunately, there's more to the draft than that. The Selective Service is the registration admin responsible for keeping track of the draft pool. If a man doesn't register with SS he can't get a job in the government, can't get federal student aid, and is breaking the law.
There have been cases of men being fired from their job for failure to register even though they are too old to be drafted.
18 is the federal voting age because it's the draft age
What does voting and fighting in a war have anything to do with each other? If that's the criteria, then all senior citizens need to be denied the right to vote because they can't fight in wars.
What does voting and fighting in a war have anything to do with each other
Literally everything. Conscription is evil. A necessary evil, but evil nonetheless. But the idea of conscripting those incapable of voting on representatives to prevent the conscription in the first place is slavery.
It is the literal taxation (of the human body) without representation that we fought a war to stop.
As for Americans who've "aged out" or even those with medical conditions, they are still technically draftable. The fact that there are plenty of those in a younger age range would out them at the back of a very, very long line.
Conscription isn't evil, conscripting Americans to fight foreign wars against our interests is evil.
Plus you don't need the right to vote yourself to still have representation. You're represented by your peers who can vote. The colonies fought because they had no vote or voice at all in parliament.
How on earth does being an effective killer on the battlefield translate to making wise decisions on electing representatives? I see zero correlation.
I see plenty of correlation between more life experience, like having a job, paying taxes, being married and taking care of others, and making good voting decisions.
The public doesn't vote on going to war. And why on earth would I need to participate in war to know it's terrible? I'm against all wars unless every other option has been exhausted.
Did you really ask that question? You have a right to vote if you are going to war or not. Jesus Christ, that wasn’t a well thought out statement.
I can get behind seniors reaching an age where they can no longer vote, but that’s a different topic. I can also get behind only people who contribute more in taxes than they receive voting.
There is ZERO correlation between being a soldier and responsible voting. You can be the most lethal soldier and vote in horrible policies. You can also never participate in a war and vote for the best polices.
Responsibility? Sure, I'm down with that. Which is why I'd rather up the voting age when people actually get responsible.
But there is absolutely no correlation between fighting in a war (or getting drafted) and making good decisions at the voting booth. Again, if it was, then all seniors need to be denied the right to vote.
That doesn't make any sense. The elderly can still be drafted. They just typically aren't because why would you draft an 80-year-old when you can draft a physically fit and healthy 18-year-old?
I'm saying that if there is some type of correlation between voting and going to war, then by that logic everyone who can't go to war should be denied the right to vote.
If you can be drafted into the military and possibly lose your life fighting a war ordered by the politicians, you should have a say in choosing those politicians.
This was the crux of the argument for lowering the voting age to 18 in the 70's.
That comes at an extremely high cost. What policies do young people tend to vote for? Bigger gov't, higher taxes, more entitlements. And it makes sense why. An 18 year old today is far different than an 18 year old 100-200 years ago. Back then, they'd be done with school around the age of 14. Which means they were likely to be working for several years. Many of them were already married and had to be responsible for kids. A far cry from today's youth.
I’d go full Starship Troopers with it. Only those who serve the country in some way get to vote. Why should people who are only along for the ride get to decide which direction to go in?
Me to I have always been right wing but I would have given up the right to vote for 3 years in a heartbeat to move the age up because I knew I was surrounded by emotional train wrecks with zero life experience.
Because the axons in your brain don't complete myelinization until your early 20's, which means up until then there's literal crosstalk between neurons causing children to physically not be able to think like an adult.
Nah, no thanks, due to marriage, emancipation, and the simple fact that you can be on your own easily in this country at just about any age if you have money. Maybe just limit it to Americans who no longer are a dependent.
Of course. There's never a draft until there's a war, is there?
Secondly, men who don't register cannot get government employment, federal student aid, and are subject to criminal penalties. So registration is not really optional regardless of an active draft.
Not only clueless, but contributing absolutely “zilch” to society. At 18 many kids don’t 1) have jobs 2) have families 3) own property 4)pay taxes 5) have any significant life experience. So why they hell do you think they deserve to vote at SIXTEEN?
Yes. The draft is the ultimate tax, for the IRS may be content with a portion of the fruit of your labor, the armed services want the totality for a number of years.
You are so right. It is the only way to get new Democrats, if you think about it. Socialism isn’t natural and has to be force-fed. Most of us outgrow that shit, but look at these blue haired lefty “adults” behave like mentally growth-stunted children.
How about this. Voting age = age parents' insurance cuts off. You can join the military, or prove independence in front of a judge if you want it sooner.
Prop 18 in California, if passed, would lower the voting age to 17. The witch Pelosi even suggested 16. The demonrats are really desperate. They are already working on allowing non-US citizens to vote. It already happened in San Francisco.
As a giant nerd, at age 18 (and probably still a giant nerd now) I understood these things and have never voted for a Democrat in my life. Unfortunately, the Republicans let me down all the time, until Trump came along.
Who knows? Some people never understand. Take my 80 year old father in law who told me "China is proof communism can work." Perhaps age is a poor metric...
I recently learned that our local school district (in hopelessly Blue Oregon) is pushing voter registration HARD in high school. I didn’t realize it but you can register at 16, even if you can’t vote until 18. Gee, I wonder which party a 16 yr old is likely to align with, while still under direct influence of the Marxist educators.
Very crafty. The Marxists have been subverting the education system in plain sight for decades, and nobody stopped them. I hope Trump wins and cancels the Dept of Education.
A hundred years ago, most 18 year olds were starting farms and raising families. In 2020, you got 18 year olds that collect dolls and shit their pants at the thought of driving a car.
They want Middle schoolers to vote. Ever hear a group of middle school girls talk? And the boys have their heads so far up their posteriors, sounds like a democrat dream.
Common core was designed to make subjects such as math and science appear impossible to grasp and “no child left behind” passes them to upper grades without sufficient understanding in order to keep young people innumerate and clueless so they fall for socialist promises of free everything, change my mind.
We have essentially extended the age of adolescence to 22-24 or the time it takes snowflakes to get through college. Imagine of they can make college "free" and start recruiting all minds of mush into leftists zombie parrots.
Dems hit key Demos with "Free" stuff- all at the Federal level.
Yes, raise the age to 25-30. Exceptions made for service of country
I agree 100%
If 18 is too young to drink or buy cigarettes then it's certainly too young to vote for the President of the US.
Oh yeah, 100%
I remember Kaitlin Bennett / Gun Girl (though she's not my favorite person tbh) did a video where she went and asked people who they wanted to vote for and they said mostly Democrats and then she asked them simple questions about US history and they had no idea at all.
They thought the Revolutionary War was around 1920 and other clueless shit.
As much as that sounds good, it 100% will be abused. Jim Crow laws were used as ways to keep out educated people by giving local officials the ability to create answers that could go both ways then penalizing the answerer when they inevitably got it wrong.

I also think immigrants should have to wait 18 years before they can vote. Or that we should just stop all immigration for the next few decades.
We can have immigration again when our unemployment rate reaches zero. A little extremist I know, but a country, any country needs to prioritize it's people before they do anything for the people of a foreign land.
I’m personally for zero immigration for at least 100 years.
Perfect example? Syrians in Canada. The government up there has been caught in a bunch of scandals the last few years and still maintain good support levels, probably due to Syrians.
Good point.... Whew lad if we raised the voting age to 21 it would single handley destroy the democratic party
Absolutely 100%. net tax payers only should be allowed to vote, I think. That would fix a lot of it.
Indeed. It would only be fair if those who pay taxes can decide how to allocate them.
Fundamentally this is the root of the problem. It's quite simple really: women have a different life strategy hardwired into them. They need other people's resources. Just part of life. Oh nooo
Anyway
Their hypergamous nature also wants a flow of alpha men coming in so that they can be sure they're with the best man. Hence open borders and muh diversity. There's a huge reason past societies didn't have women voting.
Just look at 2016’s results and tell me women voting aren’t the problem. https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.mMsMFzMYs4dtROEoog0FVgHaEC%26pid%3DApi&f=1 All those men voting went through the same educational brainwashing and somehow came to the correct conclusion. If women couldn’t vote, we would be free from commie bullshit forever.
based
I am a girl and I think this is based and true.
I am a girl and many of girls my age are lefty or extreme and crazy Trump haters.
And if you’re a girl and you’re on TD.W, you probably want a voting map that looks like the one I linked above.
yes I do.
18 is the draft age but if you’re not drafted why should that affect you? Never understood that, we haven’t had a draft in 50 years
Unfortunately, there's more to the draft than that. The Selective Service is the registration admin responsible for keeping track of the draft pool. If a man doesn't register with SS he can't get a job in the government, can't get federal student aid, and is breaking the law.

of course you would say that. You think someone who went to war would want to vote for more war in the future?
You'd think not, but WW1 -> WW2
You think that decision was made lightly? The US stayed out of it for as long as possible, until Japan attacked and forced them.
The public doesn't vote on going to war. And why on earth would I need to participate in war to know it's terrible? I'm against all wars unless every other option has been exhausted.
People vote on the people who vote to go to war. Can you really not see this?
lol, do you know why the US pulled out of Vietnam despite technically winning every battle?
Did you really ask that question? You have a right to vote if you are going to war or not. Jesus Christ, that wasn’t a well thought out statement.

its part history dude, of nearly all countries. the right to vote was tied to responsibility/service.
Responsibility? Sure, I'm down with that. Which is why I'd rather up the voting age when people actually get responsible.

im for voter reform as in denying voting rights to welfare recipients and dual citizens and what not.
Read my post again.
I'm saying that if there is some type of correlation between voting and going to war, then by that logic everyone who can't go to war should be denied the right to vote.
you mentioned seniors specifically.

Service guarantees citizenship.
The only good bug, is a dead bug.
Would you like to know more?
Desire to know more intensifies.
If they think kids don’t have the agency to choose to smoke until 21. Then they sure as shit shouldn’t vote until 21.
Shouldn’t be draft able either then.
Shouldn’t be a lot of things. Like shouldn’t be able to cut their dick off either. .
The age of adulthood should be moved back to 21 years old. This is how it used to be and for Damn good reason.
I was kind of a left centrist when I didn't know any better, but I always knew commies were evil
Me to I have always been right wing but I would have given up the right to vote for 3 years in a heartbeat to move the age up because I knew I was surrounded by emotional train wrecks with zero life experience.
Used to be until people realized it's wrong to draft people who can't vote against pro-war candidates.
Maybe we should consider 21 the age for the draft then.
bingo
If the draft is required, sure. And all citizens should register as well.
Id argue the draft is illegal, it didn't exist until the civil war and only about 60% through the civil war
18 is fine. 21 would further infantalize our society.
Or we could just trust our founding fathers judgment. Because 250 years ago they set it at 21 year old land owner.
21 is what it was until the 1970's
Because the axons in your brain don't complete myelinization until your early 20's, which means up until then there's literal crosstalk between neurons causing children to physically not be able to think like an adult.
Nah, no thanks, due to marriage, emancipation, and the simple fact that you can be on your own easily in this country at just about any age if you have money. Maybe just limit it to Americans who no longer are a dependent.
25 Unless you serve in the military. Then its 18. 25 is the age the brain stops maturing.
Make it 26. If they're too stupid to buy healthcare until they are 26 under Obamacare, they're too stupid to vote.
That means men who are subject to the draft can't vote AGAINST pro-war candidates until a year before their eligibility expires.
There is no draft.
Currently.
Of course. There's never a draft until there's a war, is there?
Secondly, men who don't register cannot get government employment, federal student aid, and are subject to criminal penalties. So registration is not really optional regardless of an active draft.
Theres been wars going for 20 years. Wtf are you talking about?
I know many 10 year olds smarter than a bunch of 30 year olds. Just limit it to Americans who are no longer dependents.
How about just bringing back the original requirements of land owning men? Seems like our founding fathers knew what they were doing..
Not only clueless, but contributing absolutely “zilch” to society. At 18 many kids don’t 1) have jobs 2) have families 3) own property 4)pay taxes 5) have any significant life experience. So why they hell do you think they deserve to vote at SIXTEEN?
The Dems would lower the voting age to 5 if they could.
"Here's your candy, Johnnie. Just checkmark the box with the 'D' on the ballot. Good boy."
"And after you mark your ballot, go ahead over there and get in that white van. We're all going to Disneyland."
"Why does the Disneyland sign say Planned Parenthood?
0, and then they'd still want to abort the baby.
What of those who do?
No, but young men have their bodies and have to pledge them to the military.
Yes. The draft is the ultimate tax, for the IRS may be content with a portion of the fruit of your labor, the armed services want the totality for a number of years.
Of course you can. Inflation.
Your vote should be proportional to either how much you pay in taxes or how long your service record was.
I’ve never met a 40 year old that thought their 20 year old self wasn’t a dumbass
Dems want to control the dept of Education AND lower the voting age so they can get a good 5 to 10 years of voting results out of their brainwashing.
You are so right. It is the only way to get new Democrats, if you think about it. Socialism isn’t natural and has to be force-fed. Most of us outgrow that shit, but look at these blue haired lefty “adults” behave like mentally growth-stunted children.
They're going to have a massive screech as people move beyond their bullshit. They're barely holding on as is.
How about this. Voting age = age parents' insurance cuts off. You can join the military, or prove independence in front of a judge if you want it sooner.
I like this idea.
It should be 25 minimum.
Scientifically that's when the brain is fully developed and able to adequately gauge risk.
I know 10 year olds smarter than 30 year olds. Just make it Americans that are no longer dependents.
Prop 18 in California, if passed, would lower the voting age to 17. The witch Pelosi even suggested 16. The demonrats are really desperate. They are already working on allowing non-US citizens to vote. It already happened in San Francisco.
Age is a useless metric. Just make it Americans that are no longer dependents.
and not dependent on the government which means they have incomes and pay taxes.
Yes, the only spin possible would be when people could lose their voting power. Muh voting rights (which were never really rights)
Yes
As a giant nerd, at age 18 (and probably still a giant nerd now) I understood these things and have never voted for a Democrat in my life. Unfortunately, the Republicans let me down all the time, until Trump came along.
What age would you say you understood these things?
Who knows? Some people never understand. Take my 80 year old father in law who told me "China is proof communism can work." Perhaps age is a poor metric...
I don't remember when it clicked for me, maybe 17, maybe 9. Which is bullshit because we all should know that moment.
We're told to register and go vote, but not how to get ready to vote. You'd think more juniors or seniors in high school would care more.
Yup, they want the misinformed, inexperienced, and easily-manipulated to vote.
18 year olds 100+ were way more mature and had way more life experience then 18 year olds today, it's not an age but maturity issue...
Dems really like them young
Can also argue they wanna lower the age of consent... <3 MAGA2020
It is telling that the votes of the dead, illegal aliens, and children are so important to the left.
Registration rolls shouldn't include ineligible voters that's absurd.
Very crafty. The Marxists have been subverting the education system in plain sight for decades, and nobody stopped them. I hope Trump wins and cancels the Dept of Education.
Also applies to open borders.
It's political suicide, but it should cost $10 to vote.
The money should go to homeschooling parents.
The cost should be being an American.
Camala said that young people are stupid.
A hundred years ago, most 18 year olds were starting farms and raising families. In 2020, you got 18 year olds that collect dolls and shit their pants at the thought of driving a car.
You should get more votes if you have higher income. More of my money goes into the system, I clearly should have more of a say as to how it is run.
then a couple jews would outvote everyone else
It's all about education, not age.
They want Middle schoolers to vote. Ever hear a group of middle school girls talk? And the boys have their heads so far up their posteriors, sounds like a democrat dream.
I think 21 minimum should be the age of majority. Voting, drinking, smoking, taxes, drafts, all at 21.
The party of depending on felons, illegals, and minors to vote.
Common core was designed to make subjects such as math and science appear impossible to grasp and “no child left behind” passes them to upper grades without sufficient understanding in order to keep young people innumerate and clueless so they fall for socialist promises of free everything, change my mind.
Yes... The last I heard the radical democrats wanted to lower the Voting age to 16-teen or even below that. CRAZY
Net tax payer or service member
That works in theory, but in practice they'd use more shares as a political battleground. Just make it Americans who are no longer dependents.
only old white based men should vote
Talk about raising the voting age and watch the salt flow.
Should be raised, or have an entrance exam before getting a Voter ID, just like driving.
Agree 100%. I voted for the fucking Green Party my first election.
26?
LMAO
BERNIE BROS ARE CUCKS
It used to be 21
Minimum age should be 21 and not able to be claimed as a dependent.
Thats why they wanted to lower it the first time and won people over with the idea of "If you can fight in Vietnam you should be able to vote"
Id rather voting age be 25 actually and I don't even disagree, 18 year olds are idiots, dont join the army till you are 21
The primaries are run by the party, right? Which are private organizations?
So if they choose to get votes from 17 year olds or foreign nationals, that should be at party choice?
You're not a fully functioning adult till somewhere between 26-32 depending on the person.
We have essentially extended the age of adolescence to 22-24 or the time it takes snowflakes to get through college. Imagine of they can make college "free" and start recruiting all minds of mush into leftists zombie parrots.
Dems hit key Demos with "Free" stuff- all at the Federal level.
Land-owning makes should be able to vote. No one else.
