I caught a tiny little piece of metal from a Dremel trying to use my safety squints instead of glasses cutting a bolt.

But I got hit right below my eye by something big enough to break the skin.

Since I was using a Dremel, not a grinder, I stupidly let my guard down and ended up coming within a centimeter of losing my eyesight in that eye, had the piece that broke the skin hit my eye instead.

The damage to my eye was minimal. It was as minor of an eye injury from metal debris as you could get really, but it was still pretty horrible to go through. Like sandpaper every time you blinked.

One of the worst parts was knowing I did it to myself because I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

I have hurt myself countless times working on things and kept working but that scared the hell out of me.

I now own a face shield and several different sets of glasses I use religiously depending on the task.

Obviously the same goes for anytime I'm firing a gun too.

I write this to warn you to not let it happen to you. It only takes one time to lose your eye sight. You might not get the same luxury of dumb luck saving yours like I did mine.

Don't let that happen to you. You will never forgive yourself for it if you do.
