I was on the fence about Durham. Then I read about the Whitey Bulger case. John Connolly was obviously a criminal, but he was far from the only one at the FBI on Bulger's payroll.
The DOJ tried to position the case as an isolated instance of a handler getting too close to an informant and used Connolly as the sacrificial lamb.
I believe Durham is, again, being used as a cleanup man to give off the perception of accountability while hiding the most egregious crimes. I would love to be proven wrong.
