Speaking as a history buff, with an interest in Mesoamerica, it's terrifying to think that the Mexica (Nahuatl name for the Aztecs) were just one civilization to engage in ritualistic sacrifice. I like to think of the Spanish Conquest of Mexico as being a lot like the Second World War against Germany, and Japan. Bad things were done against the bad guys to prevent them from continuing to perpetuate evil.

They HATED the Aztecs and provided Cortez with everything he needed to achieve a common goal. It was pretty much a miracle for these people when another group of people with more firepower came in to save them. This is why Mexico honors the Conquistadores, while larping 4th generation Mexican Americans call it genocide and white oppression.
