Africa seems to have just as many Muslims as Christians, both of which are seemingly more recent things. Not that there aren’t a million reasons Africa’s not doing so hot, and was maybe never doing so hot.

Maybe. Personally, I wouldn’t peg it on race. I know different races have higher or lower IQ averages, but you also can’t separate that from the shithole conditions people grow up in. Just look at Asian people growing up poor and eating little, then they come to America and their kids eat more and suddenly you have 6’ tall kids from 5’ parents. I’m willing to bet similar things are going on with IQ, though at the same time, that’s also an argument for the existing state of lower IQ in shithole countries, I’m only attributing it differently.
If you're interested, there's a study on SAT test scores that analyzes both race (white Vs black) and deciles of income.
As you'd expect, higher income was correlated to higher scores. Which is not necessary an IQ variation, maybe it's more motivation, parental guidance, quiet place to study etc.
But what is remarkable is that the poorest white decile achieved the same score as the richest black decile.

People shit on the SATs all the time, and I’d agree it’d be nice if we had a better test. At the same time, the tests seem to be wonderful predictors of academic and career success. There are plenty of reasons why that might be, but it does indeed appear to be the case. If the tests are ‘racist’, they seem to be racist in favor of Asian people, which doesn’t sound like something white supremacists would be aiming for.
