A few weeks ago, my dad and I stopped at a local diner after his chemo treatment. We watched a bald white guy sitting alone, and an older black woman sat down with a seat in between them at the counter. He then asked her how her morning was, they get to talking, they both find out they supported the military, and by the time we were walking out they had scooted next to each other and were talking deeply.

It really is, it’s sad, that story wouldn’t have been worth more than a warm glance years ago. Americans are far from inherent racists
