I've posted this in comments a few times, may deserve its own thread:

I have a friend that is a project leader at a very prominent engineering firm. They run internships and used to take applicants from Harvard, MIT, and more local state schools. Over the past decade or so they have completely dropped the Harvard & MIT students. He said they're useless. Even in these STEM fields they don't teach the students how to do actual engineering. Instead, the students started coming in and demanding to do projects on "racism in engineering" and garbage like that. They refused to do the projects that they were brought in to do, and whatever basic engineering tasks they were assigned to do, they fucked up. We're talking extremely basic stuff here. Everyone got tired of hearing about 'patriarchy' and 'race theory', so they took all the internship slots and started giving them to the state school kids that probably come from working-class backgrounds. Those kids actually had work-ethic and knew what they should.

My son is graduating from a top engineering high school in the country, very high grades and SAT score. Does anyone have advice about a good college for him? He's a white male, so likely will get shut out of Ivies in favor of girls. He's conservative, as are all my sons! Thanks.

Thank you, Purdue is on his list, but it's very far from us. I may have to take it more seriously. Will look into GT too.

I think GT was listed as best school for return in investment in terms of initial graduating salary versus tuition costs a few years back but that may have changed.

I live near Atlanta. I never hear about woke shit at Tech. Not saying there aren't SjWs, but they aren't as loud.

Rose-Hulman is a better option than Purdue in Indiana.

Probably depends on who you get, there are great and terrible grads from all most schools. Purdue is a good choice for engineering though regardless of what school you compare it to.

From experience I can say RH focuses much more on industry application rather than theory or liberal arts. With that said, I've hired Purdue students for internships and full time positions as well. I've had good experiences with students from both schools

If you think he's getting shut out of MIT or Caltech, apply to Columbia, Cornell or Penn engineering to some really unpopular major like materials science or chemical engineering. Once he gets there, if he doesn't like the major, switch. The first year courses are mostly interchangeable between engineering majors and Ivies don't restrict how many courses one can take so catching up or double majoring makes no difference financially if you're willing to work hard.

Thanks, will let him know this. His high school likes to tout all the top colleges that their students go to, but have stopped showing the names of the students who actually get in. Because it's all girls who are going to the ivies and mit, while the boys are going to state schools.

Network, network, network! This place is a good start, and at this point my advice for dating or jobs is to frequent the places your target audience is... Gun ranges, Trump rallies, etc

I do not. However, I do know if he wants to take some time looking, most of the formerly top tier (MIT, cal tech) offer free course auditing, and for $100 or so even a certificate of completion for the class, probably without all the woke bullshit.

It would be really hard to justify significant expense for "the woke university experience" at this point.,

Yes, I really should learn from my other sons' woke schools, but it's hard for him to not try for the best or perceived best. He's worked his butt off and should get into these schools. In the end, he'd probably be better off not going to those types of schools.

Sad what our country is doing to the best and the brightest.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. It's close to Purdue but a better engineering school than Purdue. Has midwestern values, doesn't push the liberal bullshit into the engineering classes. I got a really good education, fantastic internships, and full time job offers as early as my sophomore year. 4 years out of school and I'm making $120k now. It's pricey but well worth it to know you're getting the best engineering education without having liberal values shoved down your throat.

Thanks, will look at this. It's only been his last year of high school that the woke mob has emerged. He's not used to it and not happy about it. It was good while it lasted.
