I read somewhere that it’s a satire on right wing fascism or something. Just watched the movie, for like the hundredth time, and it still just seems to me to be a cool sci-fi flick in a future that doesn’t exist. It seems that the left always mixes real life and fantasy, I don’t get it. But, I’m not exactly the brightest bulb in the box.

Read the book.

The writer of the film was a huge cuck and misinterpreted it. It's still a great film, mostly because of the director, but the book is better.

I’ll see if I can find it at the used book store, didn’t realize there was a book. Thank you.

I try not to give Amazon my business and support local, but if I can’t find it I’ll go there.

I hear ya 100%! hope you find it at a used book store. I avoid amazon as much as is reasonably possible.

It's a great book and I hope you find and enjoy it. Lieutenant Jean Rasczaks is one of my favorite characters. He is even more awesome in the book.

The movie was made by a guy who did not read the books.

Service for citizen also included scientists, techs and other STEM related fields not just being a soldier. Also that society had a place for every citizen iirc, even if they were maimed like they are in the movie. Which shows that people have a place in the military even when maimed...

It has been a long time since I've seen the movie, but didn't they assign each citizen to a job, like a communist country would?

One movie to me that is blatantly anti-left is Hunger Games. This shows a dystopian fascist future that randomly selected poor people to fight to the death for the amusement of the elites. Elites in purple hair.

Well the difference I saw was that communism you are forced to do a job, even one you didn’t like, just to survive. In the movie, Johnny Rico’s parents weren’t citizens, they had enough money and didn’t need or want to. So it’s still voluntary. Seems like you don’t have to serve, but if you do you gain the right to be a citizen, not just a civilian, and vote and hold office and stuff.
