I was at a kids backyard movie birthday party here in California and was sitting with a bunch of parents discussing politics. They were saying how the world was turned upside down and they all thought just how bad it would be, but never imagined it would be this bad. They were all collectively adding to the conversation and at one point a guy said 4 years later I wonder how these idiots can look in the mirror without shame. I’d had enough at that point and I said if you want to know I’ll tell you. It was like a record scratch and every one of them rubber necked to look at me with mouths dropped.

It was a bit of a blur because I was surrounded and alone. I explained I voted for Trump the first time because I got shafted in crappy healthcare through covered CA (Obamacare) and dealt with crushing regulations by the cfpb. I wanted a change in the way government functioned and Trump was the bomb I asked for.

I then explained over the past 3.5 years my 401k has risen 2.5x it’s value and my personal income has doubled and if not for trumps tax cuts I’d be paying out the ass. I support trump because he fills my pockets which helped me build a pool in my backyard.

I ended it with; if you base your votes on feelings without facts your leaving money and success on the table.

One person said that was Obama’s economy and I just said cool story I wholeheartedly disagree and I’d be happy to send you data that proves you’re wrong. The rest chose not to say another word and changed the subject. I left realizing my kids may not get invited back but damn it felt good.
