I voted Trump in 2016 but he was convinced Trump had too many flaws and he voted libertarian. He wanted to vote as a block so I said if we're doing that, you voting for Trump has to be on the table and he agreed. We spent some time going down the list of candidates and I convinced him Trump was the best available choice. He was actually going to write in Kanye and I told him don't treat this like a joke. MAGA!

Hopefully your husband will vote straight ticket Republican. The president needs help to accomplish his work.

FussBus [S] 157 points ago +159 / -2

We agree on most things, yes. He just wouldn't vote for Trump last time because of all the slander, I think. But I was able to convince him this time. :)

Fortunately for me my wife is just as based as I am. The family that MAGA's together, stays together.

Same here. Extended family, too. But what else do you expect from a bunch of freedom loving immigrants that have seen this story play out before? They came to this country, legally, for a reason. My wife's family is the same way.

HistoryInvestigator 13 points ago +13 / -0

Damn, you're lucky. I have a lot of cucks in my family, it's painful. Don't take what you have for granted, pede!

9
AstronoMink 9 points ago +9 / -0

Bro, you took the words outta my mouth. Based Polish legal immigrant family, here.

We don't want none o' that socialist/commie shit--We've seen it all, and the older ones/my parents have lived it, too!

...

My grandmother passed away in 2017 after voting overwhelmingly for Trump because she actually survived the Nazis raiding her house as a child AND the murderously fraudulent Soviet election-takeover followed by 35 years of medieval peasant hell in which my parents & all my aunts & uncles were raised only to see the Dems begin repeating that history in her own lifetime. My grandfather, who was so very much like Trump, saw even worse things than my grandmother did (nearly died by Nazi hands at 14 for being a Polish Catholic that lived in a community that tolerated Jews) and absolutely would have voted for him had he lived just a few years more. If they saw what Dems are doing today, they'd practically march right up to DC to teach 'em a lesson while screaming at Dem voters "what the Hell are you fools doing?!?" Now, if that doesn't say it all...

As someone who knows these stories intimately & feels their lasting effects in what I was born to & the way I was raised... It is both terribly sad & truly frightening how easily the people forget & the masses are deceived--That they would make someone who survived all that see it come to rise again so quickly.

nmipede 9 points ago +9 / -0

Great story and great family, pede! Everyone here too, with one exception. A mid 20's academic. Even he's not rabidly left. All the rest are based. I was just looking at Trump silver rounds as Christmas presents for a lot of them before I jumped back in here.

8
MW23232 8 points ago +8 / -0

My family too, thank God! My kids, their Dad, my sister, her entire family (and her husband's side is huge,) and ALL of them are for POTUS. Plus all my friends that I know of, except one. And unbelievably my former big-time Democrat cousin! I still am amazed abt that .

That's how I ended up with an early ticket on the Trump train. I saw all the shit they were saying and was like "no way there's a man this fucked up running for president" then I made myself watch a rally and thats how I became a superfan.

I didn't even like him during his tv show days and I went to one of his pageants when he was still running it. I learned to separate The Donald from Donald.

If he wants the vote for president to count, then he also has to vote republican for the house and senate. Because if dems take the senate and keep the house, they will remove Trump and then voting for him means nothing.

25
The-nii 25 points ago +26 / -1

This needs to be stated again and again.

22
Modus_Pwninz 22 points ago +24 / -2

Yeah, Trump winning and the dems gaining the senate = trump impeachment 2.0 before 2021 even ends. And this time, they'll get it. Over what? Anything they decide, clearly...

13
DeplorableCentipede 13 points ago +13 / -0

Not quite. Democrats would need a 2/3 majority to remove Trump from office.

Dem Congress: We've impeached you

Armed Citizenry: Nah m8, he's not going anywhere.

5
Modus_Pwninz 5 points ago +6 / -1

If the last year has proven anything to me it's that "the armed populace's" guns don't matter, because views are so fractured that nobody can agree on where the line is on using them, or what is worth using them for. That line has been crossed MANY times this year and there are no groups willing to stand by and point tbeir weapons at the baddies and say enough, let alone fire. Wouldn't want to get cancelled on social media, you know.

The days of armed revolt by freedom-loving individuals is over. Armed revolt by communists is far more likely.

28
djentropyhardcore 28 points ago +28 / -0

I consider Trump to be the most libertarian president we've ever had. He's a real estate developer. He hates government as much as I do. And he's been fighting government his entire life.

11
DonJr2024 11 points ago +11 / -0

Yeah if he doesn't get 80% of Gary Johnson's 2016 votes I give up.

9
tdwinner2020 9 points ago +9 / -0

He'll get more of the independent and normally apathetic types than he will of the libertarian vote. Every libertarian i know is retarded when it comes to politics, but they think they're just principled. Not that anyone really knows what libertarianism even is - no one disagrees more strongly with any libertarian than another libertarian. Watching libertarians argue is quite the spectacle. Those libertarian principles I can discern are just stupid af, like open borders at all costs and even when they can't get welfare cut to zero or close to it. One might even say libertarianism is insanity rather than retardation.

One might even say libertarianism is insanity rather than retardation.

It didn't always used to be like this. Sure, there were splits within the party, but the majority usually went to the right of things. Abortion? That was a clear violation of the NAP, any Libertarian arguing against that was in the minority. Open borders? That was only something deemed remotely possible ONCE we rid ourselves of the welfare state, and it was obvious that HAD to happen before anyone even entertained the thought of dismantling borders. The philosophical differences within the party were fine. Now it's been totally taken over by leftists. Sad to see what happened to the party, but after they didn't run Austin Petersen I knew it would only get worse. I voted Johnson in 2016 but was rooting for Trump as I lived in CA at the time. Now I wouldn't touch the LP with a 10 foot pole, they can get fucked and vote for that BLM lady for all I care, we don't need them, they were never significant to begin with.

1
league_of_fail 1 point ago +1 / -0

IMO the LP appeared to have been co-opted by anarchists after 2012.

14
Scroon 14 points ago +14 / -0

So glad you agree with this. I know what libertarians are supposed to be, but in the real world these days, libertarians are pretty much conservatives who are afraid of winning.

They say they want to limit government interference, but at the same time, they seem to be fine with the Democrats' long slide of making everything illegal.

8
123breadman 8 points ago +8 / -0

Disagree, they are democrats who are afraid of getting rid of big government.

4
DonJr2024 4 points ago +4 / -0

For every new regulation Trump ordered two be cancelled.

He is a libertarian's wet dream.

I'm glad you convinced your husband but honestly I don't what logic he is operating off to have been on the fence until now.

3
post_sasso 3 points ago +3 / -0

I will answer your question for them: Either they personally benefit from CoC open border or outsourcing policy, or they are only libertarian as a way of being contrarian. In the latter case they do not actually care about policy outcomes, so any talk about practical politics is irrelevant to them.

2

NO LIBERTARIAN WORTH ITS SALT IS PRO-OPEN BORDERS.

FFS we want PRIVATE OWNERSHIP. I want to be able to tell Muhammad I don't want him around simply because I don't want to write double 'm's everytime.

Private autonomy means OWNER CONTROLS WHO GETS IN AND OUT. I go a degree further: if you don't own land you're out and you're never getting in unless you buy land. And you will pay a fee if you need to get through my land to reach yours.

Absolutely zero sense to defend a open border policy if you are a libertarian.

3
deleted 3 points ago +3 / -0
5
jealousminarchist 5 points ago +5 / -0

Not an actual libertarian.

The first thing that defines private ownership is a fence. That is the thousand-year-old way to enforce property rights. Now whether you actually need a wall or not is debatable. I am sure that if you had an army heli squadron gunning down illegal border crossers on the spot it would solve the problem and a physical wall wouldn't really be needed.

7
Burt_Reynolds 7 points ago +7 / -0

You can only have libertarian borders if everyone in the world is libertarian.

3
Throwawaycuzmeh 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yup. Libertarianism is the conservative version of communism. Seems good on paper, but itโ€™s not compatible with our Darwinian reality.

2
ItsTooMuchWinning 2 points ago +2 / -0

I became a libertarian because the party of McCain & Romney had abandoned its values.

I got on the train because I could see he was fighting the DNC, GOPe, & media establishment--and they were fighting back hard!

Immigration: It was never a strong issue to me, so when Trump made the case for border security, especially from a national defense perspective (one of few legitimate function of government) I accepted it.

Trade Deals: Some libertarians believe the only just tax is tariffs on foreign imports. I'm still in that camp. Eliminate income tax, instead charge tax from China's imported trash instead.

2
unicornpoop 2 points ago +3 / -1

No. We have 2/3 of the country who is so low IQ they can barely read. We need to bring manufacturing jobs back home to give these people gainful employment. Fuck china. They wither and die without our commerce, and that's probably for the best.

2
ItsTooMuchWinning 2 points ago +2 / -0

Tariffs do bring jobs back home by raising the cost of foreign goods compared to American goods. And the jobs the remain overseas (fewer) are bringing in tax revenue.

When tariffs cause your your Chinese shit to sell for the same price as your American products, the reason to buy Chinese is eliminated and the factories come home.

All that remains in China or wherever else, are companies that have some other strategic advantage for being made somewhere else (besides ripping off Americans).

Tariffs are an America First policy (that said, I'm all in favor of negotiating for lower tariffs as long as the deal is far. You buy our goods, we buy your goods.)

2
post_sasso 2 points ago +2 / -0

But there is the bigger issue: libertarians do not accomplish libertarianism. They don't have enough representatives or judges or bureaucrats on their side to ever get what they want. They don't bargain or compromise (except Rand Paul). And they don't win presidential elections. Support for them is a waste even if you accept their goals.

1
MAGA_MAN 1 point ago +1 / -0

Trump has said many times he wants free trade, but China will not agree to it. Also, he has tried to reduce the power of government wherever he can by regulatory cuts, but of course government is like a cancer that keeps growing. It's not a winning platform to say you want to completely gut medicare/caid and social security (which I would be in favor of to a large degree). If those things did not exist, then most republicans would of course be on the side of libertarians because there would be little for freeloaders to take advantage of (i.e., illegal immigration would be a much smaller issue).

Ladypede - good work. I am surprised with you being a Trump supporter it took this long for him to buy in. However, that shows you werent pushy or in his face.. you let him learn on his own, good work!

related to your story - I was at the gym today (remember Pedes, mental and physical health are equally important), and was talking to a regular gym guy I hadnt seen in a while about today's goings on. He said he's older than me (so he's in his late 40s, we'll leave it at that, lol) and he's never voted. But after watching the riots, the behaviors, the lack of Dem concern and leadership, he then started to pay attention to politics. He learned on his own about the truths behind Taylor and Blake, how the media lies and twists things.. etc etc.. he learned what Trump was doing and more importantly, had done.

He says he is now voting, and while talking, we were loud enough to be overheard by others nearby. They joined in on our talks, it was awesome to hear so many Pro-Trump/Pro-America people talking it up :)

I do not mean this as an insult but your guy strikes me as having the political awareness of a grill dad

Calling him a Kennedy Democrat is pretty accurate because the Democrat party hasn't represented blue collar Americans since JFK was alive. I say all this because I work in construction in god damned California and the only leftists I see on the job site are the occasional young person who either quickly changes their tune once they see those taxes, or quickly is no longer working at that job site. Union or non-union, everybody knows the score. If you ever doubt it just look at the graffiti inside the porta-potties. The only thing more common than dick drawings is QAnon posts

I'm not saying to confront your man with any of this I'm just saying that you should probably never talk politics with him at all since you might as well try discussing the Riemann Hypothesis with him for all the good it'll do.

This too! I used to think I could vote for weird third parties down ballot. That doesn't work, unfortunately if you like them or not just remember that every vote not for a Republican is helping the Democrats. I've yet to see a single Democrat candidate that I'd even think of considering.

If we don't like the Republicans then the time to deal with that is the primaries.

In your opinion do you think most libertarians will go for Trump? Johnson got a big % last year in a lot of states and were going to need some of those votesz

8
SisterCovfefe 8 points ago +8 / -0

I hope so. I voted 3rd Party in 2016 bc I felt that year either the libertarians or the greens should have been able to finally garner enough votes to earn federal funds. In 2018 I voted straight R which was a first for me as an Independent. This year it's Trump and the incumbent Republican congress critter.

6
MuadDon 6 points ago +6 / -0

FYI Johnson alone got 180% of the difference between Trump and Hildog in Colorado. Add in Plant Lady and McMuffin's votes and it goes to 264%. We're winning CO.

4
123breadman 4 points ago +4 / -0

Many of them are democrats who hate socialism. They are torn on the inside.

3
jealousminarchist 3 points ago +3 / -0

The thing is last time around they probably got duped by the 99.99% chance of "meatbag will be the next president" so they had no incentive whatsoever to vote strategically and simply voted ideologically (on first-past-the-post elections the optimal voting strategy tends to favor a two-party system).

Now it's different. They know media got wrong last time and they might resort to strategic voting -- and I for one see most of them going R than D.

1
Slash78 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think so.. he'll get at least half the voters who leave the Libs. The more conservative Libertarians won't stay and vote for the pro BLM/China loon they got.. she didn't even win the primaries straight up lmao. The lefty Libertarians will stay but that will drop them to 1 or 2 percent at best.

Well Jo Jorgensen is definitely not getting the 5 million votes Johnson received. He received 3.9%. I think she will only get about 4 million and the Greens will get 1 million.

So far she's underperforming Johnson by a full percent. Seeing as how the Libertarian Party endorsed Black Lives Matter and swung left, I can see a +1% boost on our side. Anecdotally most people I'm seeing who are advertising Jo Jorgensen are former Democrats. That definitely wasn't true 10 years ago.

If Jorgensen beats my expectations and gets 5-6 million that's really bad news for Democrats. They've been going after the Green Party by removing them from some state ballots

I voted Johnson in 2016. I figured Trump would defer decisions to his cabinet & advisors. That plus his association was Steve Banon was a deal-breaker for me.

I was right about Trump deferring to his administration. What I failed to see was that he would continually upgrade his cabinet. His particular public booting of Banon opened the door to me. Trump was able to fill many of the promises.

Overall, I was wrong about Donald Trump, so I'm voting for him in 2020.

He was not a white supremacist. I understood that at the time. Unlike Andrew Breitbart, Banon seemed only interested in his own career rather than the causes he claimed to support. He put a moratorium on Milo appearing on Steven Crowder's show. To me, that seemed censorious and I would have issues if Trump did act that way.

That being said, Steve Banon did understand the political landscape of 2016 better than anyone else at the time. I see now that Trump used Steve Banon exclusively for his political input. If that case was made to me I might have been swayed to vote Trump in 2016.

The Vote for Trump is vital to our country!

Please though, take the time to read the ballot initiatives and local judge / DA's and vote accordingly.

Just because something has an "R" next to their name doesn't mean they are MAGA.

/end Public Service Announcement.

I do not want my President to be some type of pc moral leader. I want my President to be a tough son of a bitch that doesn't take schiff from anybody. None of us elected Donald Trump to be the fucking Pope ๐Ÿ˜

The problems I have with the Libertarian Party are their positions on immigration, rehabilitation for criminals, and foreign policy. I oppose illegal immigration, don't believe criminals can be rehabilitated, and believe the US should maintain a strong military.

rehabilitation for criminals

I'ts definitely possible for some. They just need to put in the work and prove they have changed, unfortunately it gets abused to let out every tom dick and harry. I've met people who used to be felons and you wouldn't even know it. Libertarians are against never ending punishment that is impossible to escape. I've seen it happen to a close friend.

dogcatfud 1 point ago +1 / -0

The criminals I'm referring to have personalities worse than your typical car salesman. They're calloused, manipulative, and believe crime is a viable occupation. They pretend to be remorseful to avoid culpability. I think it's a waste of time and money to attempt to rehabilitate such persons. Perhaps the individuals you've encountered don't match these criteria.

Kanye write ins are a troll job. DO NOT do that people. Be like OP, be smart. I got no problems with him but he is not a serious candidate. Let's be real about it.

3
MeSewCorny 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think the Kanye write in is a strategy between Trump and Ye to push a sizable chunk of the black vote that wasn't voting for Trump and probably would have voted Biden. They both look out for each other and it's a solid political strategy.

TheMutualist 1 point ago +1 / -0

Eh I think it's far more likely Kanye was testing the waters and dropping his name in the media cycle around his record's release. Kanye and Trump both operate around the philosophy that bad news is better than no news

Trump colluding with Kanye is really dangerous because Kanye doesn't exactly hide his personal life. You could step on a landmine if that ever came out.

Keep up the good work! My husband voted Obama 08, Johnson 12, Trump 16, and will vote TRUMP 20. He's just as big a Trump supporter as I am now. The 2016 rally we saw made him a hardcore Trump fan for life!
