What if you step that up and get a HAM radio license so you can communicate absolutely free of any potential monitoring by authorities, like Nellie Ohr? WTF? Nellie Ohr and Bruce Ohr are like Julius and Ethel Rosenberg in terms of traitor level.

My guess is they were using the HAM to communicate with the British embassy - line of sight from their home in NW DC.

Yeah, this is pretty much a given. While you are supposed to "never ever cross your heart and hope to become a side of beef" use encryption on ham bands, it is dead easy to encrypt text and send it across the ocean on any of a hundred digital modes with less than 20 watts.
