This used to be what we called ceding the narrative or following the lefts frame, back in 2015. What you need to do is deny the left direct engagement on their terms - they've lost any moral high ground that you would need to justify him to them. By doing so, you instinctively give the left authority to arbitrate morality through claims of racism, anti-semitism, etc - even though they're actively murdering people in the streets. You need to shift the frame by laughing in their face and pointing out their inhumanity, not acting like they're arguing in good faith (they aren't).
Prior to President Trump there was very little political violence against a candidates followers. The left changed that and can never be allowed to forget it or claim moral authority after it. Don't fall into their frame.
