A failed assassination attempt is the rumor.

They've got back door treaties and black book operations completely outside the control of any government. These guys think they have all the power, but they have so much dirt on each other none of them can safely get out of line.
Then we've got the Scum at the top (visibly) of the swamp, the Political Stooges: These people are little more than hired actors with $50k refrigerators full of ice cream and CP fetishes, they are fully controlled buy the Muck but get to live like royalty as long as they spend a few hours a week pushing the papers they are told to push and dodging questions in front of a camera. These people, like Pelosi and Schitt, actually have the least influence on the global stage out of the whole power structure.
