The ten year term put in place for FBI directors was never supposed to be considered one term. It was supposed to cap on how long any one FBI director could be in that position, not a term of office. Furthermore, Deep Throat, the anonymous source for Woodward and Bernstein during Watergate, was Mark Felt. Mark Felt was the deputy FBI director. He decided to take down Richard Nixon because Nixon didn't appoint him as the Director of the FBI. Mark Felt felt he deserved and was entitled to that position and like a obnoxious and vain disgruntled employee, Mark Felt did everything in his power to destroy the Nixon administration.
