First post. I was doing research on the local candidates and realized that the Republican running to replace the Democrat incumbent in Rochester is a complete turd. He wants an assault weapon ban, universal health care and couldn't find anything to disagree on with his opponent in a debate. He doesn't support the president and doesn't think Barrett should be confirmed before the election.
What's crazy is that the suburbs are red and getting redder and people living in the city aren't exactly happy about the riots, crime, lockdowns, curfews and corrupt mayor who was just indicted. He might actually get elected in the Trump wave. I just don't get how he is the candidate. I was shocked to discover he ran unopposed in the Republican primary! Hello Libertarian Party, just do a Ron/Rand Paul and compete in primaries instead of being posing retards and splitting the vote in the general!
America actually has sort of has runoff election system, start running your candidates in the primary! The general election is really just a runoff election! If brainless AOC and the socialistas can figure this out, why can't lovers of liberty?
True, but the other part of the issue is that the parties aren't government. They're private clubs. You can't just show up and say, "I'm running as a Republican". The Party gets to choose whether or not to let you in, and there are membership "fees" and requirements.
The solution remains the same, though. Voters need to engage in local politics a lot more than they do. Too many of us know more about the political background of the Representative of the 14th district of New York than they do about their own Representative.
That might be true, but I don't know. It might be that no one else bothered to jump through the requirements to register as a primary candidate.
Either way, I agree that we all need to do a better job of being involved in the primaries. There's a similar issue with the large number of unopposed dems. I had to write in a name on my ballot (I'm out of state military) because one of the city council positions was an unopposed democrat.
This guy has a very good chance of winning. Rochester's new 25th district has a lot of conservative suburbs. The problem is that this turd ran unopposed so we have no one worth voting for!
