All "bedding" will accumulate dead skin which dust mites eat. Mattresses and couches are a particular problem because very few vacuums have enough power to pull through them.
Yeah. Everyone's moving toward luxury vinyl planking and area rugs because carpet always visibly turns to shit (using surface cleaner vacuums, etc)... The dust mite thing is just a touch of dirt on the filth at that point.

Back in the day... Like the 1950s... A hoover vacuum had a motor the size of a coffee can and could actually pull that shit up from underneath the carpet... Probably still had shit filtration so you'd put a lot back in the air & the suction was so tough you couldn't hardly move it. Somewhere along the line 99% of the vacuum manufacturers realized people could only "cared" about the surface dirt. Is what it is
