Retired cop here (2018). We are trained to shoot to stop the threat. Not shoot to wound, or shoot to kill, to stop the treat. Not pause it. That threat does not have to be armed. There’s always a gun involved, yours. There are countless videos on YouTube where an unarmed man fought a cop, overtook him and his weapon, then shot and killed the cop. They must have showed us 50 of them in the academy. Lord forbid you have shoot someone in your career, you do it to stop the threat against you, or someone else. The media pretending to be cops after one angle of shitty video appears in sickening. We don’t get to challenge them on the damage they cause with their all too common reckless reporting and spun facts, but they get to question cops with opinion and false narratives, the very people that work hard to keep their lives uninterrupted by evil, every. damn. day.
