Ultima Online was absolutely groundbreaking. Adored it, ugly bumps and all. Kinda hate that the Everquest model (WoW clones) took off instead of the more sandbox living world UO.
WVW in GW2 was a blast for a while. A shame they never dedicated more to it.
Still have a little hope for Camelot Unchained, if it ever sees the light of day. Designed for Realm vs Realm top to bottom.
Betting after the current LS ends WvW gets the badly needed face-lift. Then the next quarter Selbbub makes its face known and we go into Cantha to learn about it.
I played in 2017 or 2018 and enjoyed mostly WvW. I’m interested if you could describe what changes were made that ruined it? It’s hard for me to imagine that it was once even better.
There's still fun to be had. I play with an active bunch and we have fun on weekends. Luckily this crazy lady didn't work on guild wars 2 but one of the unannounced games Anet was working on. I'm sure there's people like her on guild wars 2 though as the gaming industry has a lot of fucked up people working in it. Hopefully the steam release and new expansion can breathe some new life into the game though, and hopefully more people who aren't so politically fucked up start getting into the industry
Game is a laggy busted mess. I've logged in recently and between shitty frame rates and zero game balance I can't stomach it for long periods.
Forgot to add that yes the GW2 team is full of commies too. I got harassed for creating a character named after one of their SJW See You Next Tuesday's. They banned the account and gave me BS reasons when I went through their support team.

Back in the late 00s I was religiously playing Warhammer Online. The High Elves in Warhammer lore are a bit effeminate, and the game took it to the extreme. Most of the male characters didn't look too far from the female ones.
I had a male Sorcerer named Jender Ishyooz. I got reported a few times. They never banned me. Based Mythic Entertainment.
I have a baseball hat from release. It's dyed to resemble a MAGA hat. Sometimes get asked about it and if that's what I'm going for. I always respond, "Damn right." I like to "lead" Silverwastes farming maps. I've thought about starting a MAGA guild a few times. The playerbase is inundated with pedos playing their 13 yr old lookin' ass slut waifus. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the lag but I have not experienced that yet. The balance issues I see though. PVP and PVE metas need a look at for sure. I haven't done a lot with politics in the game as I try to keep politics out of my hobbies but if I see it on map chat I will join in for some fun, usually it takes one word like MAGA or something to make map chat explode, this is true of many games though as a lot of gamers are pretty weak skinned (probably most people in general tbh). The company is based out of washington state so yeah I can see the dev team being made of mostly pieces of shit but then again most of the entertainment industry particularly around software is. Not all but a large part, or at least the vocal part.
Just got the new Difinitive Edition of Age of Empires III. First thing you load up is a long commentary from the developers/designers (Microsoft/Xbox studios) that A) they made changes so the game was more "historical" and B) removed "stereotypes" and biases particularly used on native american faction in the game. Ok, all well and good until you find out they also changed "Colony" to "town" and other similar syntax changes. Hey, MS, if you're going for historical accuracy then "Colony" is the correct historical term you should be using!
Yeah I don't know what reasoning they would have for that. The original colonies were British colonies until the US went independent. No one says "The original 13 towns"

It was up there I'll admit. I still rank the original Ultima Online as a superior experience.

WvW was easily one of the best PvP systems in any MMO that I've seen.
Yes it was very refreshing to play. Very fast paced and you could quickly get back into the action unlike the game that inspired WvW, DAoC

Prior to those changes you had to rely on combo fields to survive in group PvP.
There weren't any classes that shit out boons at a press of a button nor classes that could keep up max stacks of boons forever.
You had to be very organized to properly heal, clear condi's, and apply boons.
I was also a part of a team of 10-15 players who regularly took out 20-50 players at a time and at times full map zergs like 80-100.
It honestly sounds to me like it's more balanced now, then. I had an absolute blast playing WvW constantly.

The new specs released with xpansions are always OP and have introduced a spammy AOE game that requires less skill
