...to be fair, layoffs do push the victims out that fast. Usually a couple of folks walk up to your desk, ask you to come to HR, and your shit gets locked out at nearly the same time (or at latest it happens while you're signing the exit paperwork in that office).

Exactly. It depends on the circumstances, but high risk layoffs like IT positions are often handled this way.
