In theory, Congress has the power to call these hearings to either inform their members when they write legislation or to help them make non-binding recommendations to the DoJ about crimes that have been committed. Unless someone makes a bald faced lie under oath instead of just giving a non-answer to all the tough questions, this is just theater to pump the credentials of people like Cruz who are courting the MAGA vote
