I'm currently helping build a very small web app for a startup, and I can say with certainty that there are ghosts, demons and hobgoblins infesting the internet and all it's servers.
The thing is that these people, the self-crowned lords of the internet, are too stupid to successfully make it look like the the angry ghosts of long-dead web devs took a disliking to your query... Or too full of themselves to realize the hapless peons know the difference between their supposed alogrithm problems and actual server issues.
Its always an "accident" or the "algorithm" made an oopsie.
