I am surprised there hasn't been a political assassination attempt against a sitting US elected official since Steve Scalise was attacked in 2017. We're getting into the most heated part of the political game yet. Post election, it wouldn't surprise me if one side lashes out against the other.
Wikipedia lists 4 "attempts" after June 2017. Two of those are castor bean/ricin in the mail. Pointless and easily detected and stopped. One is a man who was plotting but was arrested before he could attempt anything. The last isn't a confirmed attempt, but just says shots were fired outside the White House. I'd call one an unknown and the other 3 just plots since there was no real threat to the President at any point.

There's been 5 publicly announced assassination attempts against Trump alone, not to mention all the attempts that weren't reported.
