Back at the end of August, I decided to push back on facebook when I saw people spreading blatantly false information about the Kenosha shooting incident. People who knew absolutely nothing about firearm laws or self defense laws were putting up the typical fake news 5 second clip of the incident, claiming to be informed and letting the world know how outraged they are.
I proceeded to destroy this little conversation with facts over the course of a few days. I wrote a lot, responded to and countered all their feelings and lies, and every bit backed up with truthful information, which I found plenty of here on .win. There were about 3 people that I personally knew in the conversation.
The result? Of the 3 people I argued with, 2 of them don't post political stuff anymore. 2 out of the 3 people don't post fake news anymore. 2 out of the 3 people don't share garbage clickbait articles anymore. That means that 2 people aren't spreading bullshit to their friends and family.
Why? Not because I called them racist, or xenophobic, or bigots, or morons, but because I challenged them when they expected pats on the back. You need to go make these people uncomfortable. Not uncomfortable in sharing an informed political opinion, but uncomfortable when they spread fake news with no proof.
Plus, if you're used to arguing on social media with truly evil people, then trust me, your moron friend from high school doesn't stand a chance.
tl;dr If you use facts to call out your friends on social media when they spread bullshit, a good number of them will stop spreading bullshit.
I’ve been doing the same thing with my best friend from high school. I dunno how he became a rabid liberal, but it happened. Prob that bullshti community college he went to. I got tired of him posting false anti-Trump bullshit and started calling him out on it. We’ve had some nasty back and forths, and sadly he still got pats on the back by a bunch of his liberal friend...but at least found some Common ground in a few issues, snd he has definitely cut back on political stuff.
