My wife is Puerto Rican and grew up in the ghettos of southern california. Our first date she told me that she thought the "Do UC Me?" racial justice protests that were disgustingly ruining lives and turning our campus upside down because some Asian girl left a noose in the library were "beautiful". She'd make me hang out with her friends once in a while. Without fail they would bait me into some nonsensical argument and I'd calmly destroy their hysterical hyperbole with facts and reasoning. Of course it didn't sway them but my wife definitely noticed how unfair and belligerent they were being to me. Fast forward 8 years and I don't have to hang out with any of those people anymore. My wife is now the most rightwing person I know. Anyway, my point is that if my wife can pull herself out of that swamp, anyone can. They just need the right help.
