Can't go wrong with a glcok as a first gun. This hopefully is the beginning of a new addiction.

16
scurismi 16 points ago +16 / -0

The only problem is you never have a reason to try another brand 🤣

11
RiverRunnerVDB 11 points ago +11 / -0

You buy different brads only to confirm you got it right the first time.

6
RegularAmerican 6 points ago +6 / -0

Also if you find something that works well for you stick with it.

I have a Sig P365 as my EDC which I bought after reading glowing reviews. On paper, it's great in every way but I hate how it shoots. Not comfortable and not fun to shoot, for me anyway. I now wish I had stuck with my M&P, which I sold to switch to Sig.

3
txladyvoter 3 points ago +3 / -0

Try a Sig P365XL at a range rental near you and see if you like it.

Or a GL48 with a Shield Arms S15 round magazine since the 48 only comes with a 10 round.

More suggestions pedes?

4
BeardedNinjaPede 4 points ago +4 / -0

If bubadmt likes subcompact Sigs, he could try a P938. It's an excellent subcompact gun, but it takes practice to shoot accurately because of the short barrel and snappy recoil.

I'm also a Glock fan and carry a 19 if I'm around people and a 20 if I'm in the woods.

1911s are fun shooters. I don't concealed carry them though.

S&W M&Ps are good to go.

Many like CZ pistols. Do your research because some are lemons.

Stay away from High Points.

If you can, you just need to buy all types of pistols and find out which ones work in your hand for your intended purpose. Everyone is different.

Have fun shooting!

3
txladyvoter 3 points ago +3 / -0

Absolutely have fun shooting and be safe shooting!

Great suggestions! I like some CZ's Like the M&P's too.

Practice practice practice! Off hands, both hands, drawing!

NotInFormation 2 points ago +2 / -0

I tried a 365 and found it accurate, reliable, and ergonomically entirely not for me.

2
RegularAmerican 2 points ago +2 / -0

I got G43 and I hate shooting that thing. Not saying it's a bad gun. But compared to my G19 (Preferred CCW) and G17 Its just difficult maybe because my hands are kinda big and the subcompact means it's snappy recoil and short sight radius. And it only has the capacity for a 6 rd mag (flush). 7 rounds is pretty lame I might as well have a revolver. I know the P365 tops that capacity with a 10 rd flush mag. That's pretty cool. But idk if they have issues being "drop safe"? Did they fix that?

I just carry the 19 because I shoot it well and I'm so familiar and comfortable with it. I know it's not the finest pistol, I've shot others that are more expensive and higher build quality, (no polymer, hammer triggers much smoother than glock). But I know the Glock won't let me down. I don't want a safety or any mechanism that slows me down from getting on the trigger as fast as possible. Also If you're worried about a double stack 9mm printing just buy a slightly bigger shirt. I don't understand that I'm a pretty slim built person and I've never worried about printing (carrying appendix).

4
BeardedNinjaPede 4 points ago +4 / -0

Are you me? I've had the same experience. Good advice.

2
RegularAmerican 2 points ago +2 / -0

Great minds think alike I guess

3
NotInFormation 3 points ago +3 / -0

Ergonomics (hand fitting) matters. Consider the 26.

2
16Sherman 2 points ago +2 / -0

There's the G43x which has a grip that's a bit longer and more comfortable to hold, plus there it's a 10+1 instead of the G43's 6+1. I like both, but I'm uncomfortable with only having a 6+1, especially since it's only a 9mm.

1
RegularAmerican 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yea my buddy carries a 43x. It's pretty neat. I'm not a huge fan of shooting subcompacts but I see their purpose. But the extra length on the grip kinds defeats the purpose. I know it's thinner but the 43x probably isn't much easier to conceal than a G19. Might be slightly more comfortable. That's all I can think of right now.

1
bubadmt 1 point ago +1 / -0

AFAIK they fixed the drop safety and reinforced the striker and changed the design so there's no more striker drag or any broken strikers.

I use the 12 round mag and it conceals well but regardless, it sucks to shoot. I have a hard time holding it tightly so I have to adjust my grip after every couple of shots. I don't like the way it feels grip-wise. My other pistols like my CZ-75, my G17, my former M&P Shield, I never have any issues with their grip, they're much better. But I still use the P365 because ultimately it's a tool for self-defense and it's okay if it's not fun or comfortable, I see it as good to go if it fires when I need it to.

1
two_many_phones 1 point ago +1 / -0

Had p365, have hellcat.

Carry my g26 and px4 compact carry.

Much better shooter with both of those vs the micro compacts.

Anything not near body contact distance and I feel much better using the g26/px4 while under any kind of stress.

Or Gen 4 depending on how they feel about finger grooves.

You definitely want to upgrade the sights ASAP. I like the Tru Glow TFOs (tritium fiber optics) because they glow bright night or day! I put those sights on all my Glocks which helps for consistency between guns.

Generally, a home defense gun should not be locked up. You need to access it quickly if something goes bump in the night. You don't want to be fumbling with a combination lock in the dark seconds after you woke up while a bad guy is coming for you...

2
Cincinattus1776 2 points ago +2 / -0

"Minutes"? Could happen in even less.

There's a video I saw a few weeks ago that was used as an example of why you DON'T shoot someone in the leg. It was a guy acting a fool in front of a bunch of armed guards, and one of the guys just pops him in the leg with a FAL. Dude falls, blood is pouring out of his legs. Within 10 seconds, he's on the ground crying, and within 30, he's unresponsive.

America_No_1 3 points ago +3 / -0

Federal 200 grain hollow point, but truth be told, I got this super cheap from a wholesale contact - there might be better options. I enjoy this pistol so much that I am considering the long slide - this pistol is so damn accurate and the holes it punches feel like a high caliber rifle

4
Mukato 4 points ago +4 / -0

I have the 40, it’s totally worth it. Put an optic and a light on it and you’ve got a nail driver that’ll punch through IIIa body armor with the 115gr penetrators at 1875 FPS

2
PropagandaWizard1984 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ok thanks. It's going to be my farm/country pistol. One pistol to rule them all type thing. I know there are less 10mm ammo options Vs. 45 acp. 10mm is supposed to be better on the recoil and still punches huge holes like you said.

3
America_No_1 3 points ago +3 / -0

45 feels pedestrian after shooting 10mm. Velocity is insane!

3
No_name_iii 3 points ago +3 / -0

45 acp in a full sized gun (i.e. 1911) makes for very comfortable shooting. Id say its more comfortable to shoot 45 in a full sized gun than 9mm in a compact.

2
Sheepdog_Alpha 2 points ago +2 / -0

Are you me?

9
ProtectFreedom 9 points ago +9 / -0

You need to get a holster & a belt.

You also need an AR-15, 6 30-round magazines, a chest rig - to carry the mags - and a sling.

5
whyewemadbro 5 points ago +5 / -0

Exactly. Always remember the Gospel of Kenosha 17:76, as handed down by St. Kyle:

“Thine sling be true,

when sodomites seek to take;

rifle ever with you,

holier and silent you’ll make.”

3
LoneStarDangler 3 points ago +3 / -0

And plates. Don't larp the rig without plates

5
RegularAmerican 5 points ago +5 / -0

Also a trauma kit and learn its contents and how to use them. Extra CAT turnaquet. These items are necessary.

4
YeDragonEnergy 4 points ago +4 / -0

Essential items, if you plan to make holes, expect to patch some up too.

3
YeDragonEnergy 3 points ago +3 / -0

Agreed, plates (good ones) are important, however chest rigs usually can’t accept plates, but many modern “modular” chest rigs can be attached to plate carriers with clips and velcro

1
ProtectFreedom 1 point ago +1 / -0

You don't need plates if you're going with a light chest rig. If you're going with a plate carrier, that's different - and you better be in excellent shape/have a vehicle to get you from point A to B

2
Nomoralcompass89 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is false, you need 7 30 round MAGAzines.

2
BeardedNinjaPede 2 points ago +2 / -0

Incorrect.

You always need N+1 magazines where N is how many you currently have.

2
Gryffinofgold 2 points ago +2 / -0

Cool! That was supposed to be my first gun but my store ordered the one without MOA and i'd already got my red dot so I ended up splurging on a Walther PPQ Q5 Match...cuz it was just sittin' there. Gotta say, I'm not unhappy. :)

2
OnlyRosieODonnell [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Nice, the Walter PPQ was on my list of guns to consider, the grip on that thing is amazing.

2
Doggfaceponysoldier 2 points ago +2 / -0

Oh, you got a brand new 9? Good luck finding bullets now.

1
OnlyRosieODonnell [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Haha I know what you mean but if you go to the place I went to then you have a better chance of finding it. I was able to get 100 rounds of fmj ammo for the range and 20 hollow point rounds for now. They won’t sell you a lot at once because of the demand but I should be able to keep going back and getting some more. The big stores in the area like Cabela’s are of course always sold out.

1
PropagandaWizard1984 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ok cool THANKS! I thought it was a full size grip with a compact slide. But it didn't look like the 19x. I always forget about the G-45.

I feel like blotting out the serial number is a good idea but I don't know why? Please help?

2
JohnCocktoasten 2 points ago +2 / -0

Unhinged lefties can report it stolen. Gun could be temporarily taken away from you.

1
scurismi 1 point ago +1 / -0

Good to know

2
PropagandaWizard1984 2 points ago +2 / -0

The serial number is tied to your identity. Any law enforcement people can look it up super easy. It can have other ramifications on exposing your real life identity as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if the CIA/FBI task AI programs to scan places like TD.win for serials and add you to "The List". It's just always best to keep that info to yourself.

1
Willholbert09 1 point ago +1 / -0

Good you have it, but IF this is the only weapon you have - good luck. How many have been shot with 9mm rds., even JHP's, multiple times that have survived.... let alone widely noted/broadcast since the end of last May? Note the instances. And remember, the main reason to carry a handgun is to get you to a LONG GUN.

2
RegularAmerican 2 points ago +2 / -0

Handguns are very hard to hit stuff with further out than 15 yards it's almost impossible for many inexperienced shooters. Put a rifle like an AR in their hands and they are shooting clay pigeons (still) at 75 yards

4
deleted 4 points ago +4 / -0
4
TheMadManDidItAgain 4 points ago +4 / -0

3
KekRaider1 3 points ago +3 / -0

Never shoot to wound. Always shoot to kill. Otherwise you’ll end up dead or in prison with a lawsuit. No matter how guilty the other guy is. And if you’re white theyll bury you under the prison. Just shoot to kill.

3

All h/guns long guns stripped to discreet components, cleaned, cleaned again, function checked and critically spared down to the roll pins, oiled and or greased as applicable per weapon. Today M1A's get zeroes and holdovers verified for social work out 500 yds., mforgeries a bit less... re-cleaned, func checked again. Stashes, perimeters, sensors, b/ups, med kit/ant-b's/pain/tquit/cellox paks date code checked. All verified, food stuffs distributed about the AoO and lucky fresh h20 isn't a problem about our area. GSheps chompin' at the bits as always especially our 6 yr. old Alpha female as aware we will need them likely more than they will need us besides that they're beloved Family members anyway. 160lbs. Victor ProP stocked for them plus their favorite treats when they're not running down and throat shredding area coyotes. SHTF clock reads 2350 x=st. It's closer than most think. Could take up to a year or more, but a reckoning is at this point way far past DUE. Any of you boys actually believe at this point this Country won't have to be taken back by force? Those who do will be among the first dispatched. You MAY know what you like to live for, but have you prayed and rigorously scrubbed your soul/s for what you're ready to die for? This is not an easy task for even the strongest men of the west, but one that must be settled. Ready to go campin' are you? This is no "tin hat" musing. Those who may think otherwise are imbeciles or have been comatose for the past 2 yrs. Methinks many will get to test out relatively soon.

YeDragonEnergy 2 points ago +2 / -0

Good on you for exercising your rights! As others have said, if you’re going to conceal carry get a good belt and holster. Blue alpha gear makes some very affordable but great quality belts. Vedder, Dara, Trex Arms, and Tier 1 are some good brands of holsters. Also make sure to get some good hollow point ammo for defensive use. Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST are some great choices.
Don’t overlook carrying a non-lethal tool like pepper spray so you don’t have to resort to your handgun for non-lethal threats. Since this is your only gun for now, make sure to get a good light (it can be weapon mounted or a pocket-sized light). Streamlight makes good options for both (the TLR-7A is perfect size for conceal carry, TLR-1HL is big but very bright, and the Microstream is a very small light with a pretty good light output)
