There's like what, 8 billion people worldwide? 1 million deaths, nearly all who are very elderly and have at least 2 or 3 comorbidities and would probably die soon anyways? 1 million is a drop in the bucket. I bet more people die of heart attacks from McDonald's Big Macs in one month than died from Covid in 1 year.
And yet, the whole world has to lockdown and the global economy collapse and we're headed towards totalitarian government as a result.

if the government really cared about smoking deaths why don't lockdown society until most people give up smoking? We could just have lockdowns for all sorts of stuff until people get the message so the "data" and death statistics improve

People have no idea what normal actually is.
I asked a guy at work how many people he thought die each year in America just any normal year, and he guessed 30,000. The real number is more than 2.8 MILLION.
Imagine what that did to his perception of the Big Scary Number 200,000 covid deaths. Here I am looking at that like number as a perfectly normal number of deaths among the elderly and immuno-compromised that pass away each year during cold and flu season. Meanwhile, he feels like it's more than 6 times the number of people that die from all causes every year.
Now obviously, he'd instinctively know that that's wrong if he could see everyone walking around healthy with his own eyes, but thanks to the "preventative measures", he's seeing restaurants half-empty, no one in any of the parks, being short-staffed at work...
All of these "social distancing" and preemptive quarantine measures are designed to create the illusion of a decimated population. Seeing everyone wearing masks is a constant reminder that we're in the middle of a Scary Pandemic.
The fact is, no one would be afraid of this if we weren't all being forced to ACT like we're afraid of it.
And yet, healthy salad buffets were forced to go out of business permanently while global fast food garbage is allowed to prosper.
MAKES NO SENSE
But to put THAT Big Scary Number in context, the vast majority of them are over 75 when they "die of heart disease".
Back in the 30's the US changed the laws governing the reporting of death. Since then there is no such thing as "natural causes" or "old age". Everyone has to die of something. Since the clinical definition of death is your heart stopping, heart disease is generally put down as the ultimate culprit.
And voila, all of a sudden there's a heart disease epidemic in the US.

Not only do i NOT know anyone who died, but my grandma -- who is very frail and very old and has high blood pressure -- has been totally unaffected and not a single case in her nursing home even though i was sure she'd be gone by now...

Theres like 5 ppl that died from covid. The rest died with covid.

If we were going to be 100% honest, most of them died from old age.
