Public executions are very much still practiced under Shariah Law and Saudi Arabia just a few years ago had a very strong spike in beheadings. A strict Islamic society follows Shariah Law which very strongly calls for public executions for various crimes. Public executions can also be discretionary when the purported crime isn’t defined under Islamic Law.
