Because Israel is one of the only, if not the only, secular democracies in the entire region in addition to being a stalwart ally. This is evidenced by the recent peace accords. They take a lot of shit from the Iranians, in many ways acting as a proxy for the US. It has ZERO to do with Jewish heritage/religion.

Which scenario seems more likely to you?

Scenario A: Most American politicians are honest, incorruptible people who always put America first and aren't in the pockets of their donors

or Scenario B: Most American politicians rabidly support Israel (regardless of whether it benefits the general American populace) because their donors pay them to

"Of the top 50 political donors to either party at the federal level in 2018, 52 percent were Jewish and 48 percent were gentile. Individuals who identify as Jewish are usually estimated to make up perhaps 2.2 percent of the population.

Of the $675 million given by the top 50 donors, 66 percent of the money came from Jews and 34 percent from gentiles.

Of the $297 million that GOP candidates and conservative causes received from the top 50 donors, 56 percent was from Jewish individuals.

Of the $361 million Democratic politicians and liberal causes received, 76 percent came from Jewish givers."

That doesn't mean every American Jew is some evil person put to get you. It does mean that most of our politicians are willing to sell out to the interests of a foreign nation because people like Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban pay them to.

In addition, stalwart ally is not the term I would use to describe Israel. They're a pretty lousy ally. We give them a quarter TRILLION in foreign aid and they turn around and sell the military tech we give them to China.

lol as if international politics is a binary choice. Name a better ally in the Middle East. Oh, right, there isn’t one.

We support Israel because we need a foothold in the region and they’re the best option and have been for decades. Do they want our help? Absolutely. That’s how alliances work. Are there big donors who want to maintain the relationship? Obviously, why wouldn’t there be when there’s also a ton of money spent by the pro-Palestinian movement? When you have Ilhan Omar and the BDS crap happening, of course Adelson pours money in to support pro-Israel candidates.

Candidates like GEOTUS.

The United States currently has military personal based in Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE

It doesn't seem like we need Israel to be our foothold in the Middle East at all. In fact, our support for Israel hamstringed our relations with every other Middle Eastern nation for decades.
