Imagine, if you will, the husband that's been running around on his wife for decades while also emotionally and maybe even physically abusing her. Everyone at least has heard of someone like this, right?

Now, ever notice how some of these women will always defend that piece of garbage husband? Catch him in a lie, see him sexting someone else, doesn't matter. She will (again only sometimes) believe it didn't happen and even cover for him to friends and family. She will lie for him until she believes the lie. The Shaggy defense is real (dating myself, I know).

It happens to men too, just nowhere nearly as common.

Sometimes they'll even stay until their SO kills them.
