Exactly! Pilots need to train a ton. They also need to train flying over cities as they could encounter those while fighting. The more hours a pilot logs the better they become. Jet fuel costs $1 a gallon and sometimes less.
Also this inspires young people to want to fly for the military when they grow up. It's a recruiting tool. Damn good return on investment for a little bit of fuel if you ask me.
