Hell most new DSLR cameras (that have GPS) do it as well. It does have legitimate uses. Such as when you might stop some place on a trip and take pictures but then later not remember precisely where it was. The EXIF will tell you.

You can remove the data by going into to your phone camera's settings.
But by default yes i believe so.
I recommend for everyone to turn those settings off.
Also there are apps you can use to remove exif data.
Not only that, but if you hunt, mushroom hunt, gold/gem "mine", and so on, DO NOT post photos online of good finds with this info on.
Or post pics for Sunday Gunday.
Most image hosts strip the EXIF data but I still generally convert them to .png files before uploading them since .png files don't store EXIF data.
Yeah, but when you take the file directly from the hard drive or if Vladimir Putin hands them to you, the EXIF data is still there.
Or just screenshot it before sending it to 3rd party.

Only if you get them from the device, usually. Uploads don't work that way using converters
