Germanpede here. If you think paying over 40%/50% in taxes is fake or "will never happen" because retarded. In germany we DO pay 40-50% taxes. After paying taxes you still pay taxes on everything you buy ontop of those taxes. Even electricity bill is filled with taxes. Thanks to taxes we have the highest electricity price in Europe. Cheap electricity in germany is twice as expensive as US-Citizen electricity. Oh did i mention taxes on alcohol, taxes on cigs, taxes on fuel?
On any European country you pay at least 60% taxes.
Sum the income tax, the payroll tax, and the VAT and you're already above 50%. Then there's additional taxes on fuel (muh roads), alcohol, cigarette, etc. etc.
Not true exactly. You're right that taxes are very high in Europe compared to most US areas, especially if you consider VAT, which is up to 20% on everything you buy. But otherwise: You maybe pay 60% in taxes + social security (pension, unemployment) + healthcare if you have a very high income, but taxes are progressive and normally top out at around 50% for income over 100,000 USD. People with low income pay either no taxes or around 20%.

My Mother was born in Frankfurt.
My Eldest Brother was born in Hamburg.
And as first generation GERMAN here I shall never hyphenate before American here in America!
I simply can't stand any word from some shithole country before America.
Merkel is a disaster, like a German Hillareee
Merkel is worse since she is in office since 2005 - that's 15 years... And germans have no say over who will be chancellor
again, I am really Proud of My German Roots from muh Mutti
when i look at what has happened to The Fatherland, i cry . . .
I'm in the UK and pay 50% income tax, before any other taxes. That's just the way it is

so sad
But when I checked I think I saw income tax in California is the same as the UK.
VAT in Europe I think it's the equivalent of sales tax in the US.
Americans do pay a ton of taxes too
are you really in Italy?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're trying to say...
Nobody pays 60% TAXES in Europe. Was that clear enough?
And like I said, most people do pay 60% in taxes.
Take the UK for example.
You make, say, £80,000 a year. Almost 30% is in income tax. Then there's VAT, and that's 20%. We're already at 50%.
Then add the payroll tax (which is a tax the employer pays for you, but essentially it comes out of your paycheck). Then add the local council tax.
That's already over 60%.
Now imagine you want to drive. Half of what you pay in fuel is taxes. Plus the road tax.
And God help you if you smoke or drink.
Understood! All things considered, I admit that you're right.
