The problem is that most people (even some R's) will believe this, because, for the past 4 years America has been told that Donald Trump is a liar. A good number of people will reject this info, because it's coming from the Trump camp.

It's because it tends to be easier to influence a group of people with stupid ideas than just one person. Let's say you have a group of 50 people and bring up a crazy idea (like how murder should be legalized). Out of them, roughly half will have a preset stance on it, another 10% won't have any stance or care about the issue, and the other 40% won't have any stance but will be open to persuasion from either side. Repeat this multiple times, and eventually you can get groups to believe the dumbest shit like how high taxes is a good thing or that it's okay to put white men into slavery.
