Yea so I would be a “veteran” teacher by now (whatever the hell that means) if I didn’t leave the profession for the military. I taught inner city high schoolers and there was never a political compulsion. It’s mentorship if asked for but always in terms of helping the kids with issues related to growing up and becoming self sufficient adults. Otherwise you teach the damn material in thoughtful and creative ways that make the learning experience somewhat enjoyable and impactful. You hope they remember what they learned but the main goal is the diploma.
