This. It'll give him a broader mandate for term two. Might also flip a House seat here or there.

How does internal polling work? I get all these emails from Trump asking to fill out super biased surveys so I know it's not that

its done the same as the public polling except they arent cooked. a polling company that does internal polling HAS to get it right or they are out of business.

a public polling firm can make up whatever they want weeks or months before an election because they can just claim unforseen events changed things.

its how idiots like Nate Silver can maintain a reputation. Dude has Trump at 12% chance when we all know thats total horeshit. come election day he will have them closer to 50/50 and when trump wins he can claim he was within error and ignore the other 364 days that he was dead wrong. Its why i respect guys like Norpoth who put their reputation on the line 6 months in advance

Polls produced for public consumption are designed to shape, not reflect, public opinion.

Polls produced for private consumption are designed to measure public sentiment and are not widely released.

What you and I get from the Trump campaign are core/base sentiment surveys, not general opinion surveys.

Remember: If you're not the customer, you're the product.

At the absolute bare minimum it forces the other side to defend their own territory. Taking the initiative forces your opponent to react to you, who knew?

No doubt this is Grand Heresy in some Conservative playbook.
