We had nothing to do with it

You see that's the problem right there. These are "unelected bureaucrats" and we don't have a process for recalling them

But we COULD if we got Trump to create a national / federal citizens referendum process for firing unelected bureacrats---ANY US employee for transgressions the public feels are intolerable.
