Microsoft got taken down by anti trust laws in the 90's for doing much less than Google, no idea why they've been allowed to grow so big

Oh because the left controls everything

All these big tech companies are doing similar things. They were all approved to buy up all these smaller startups or copy their software if they didn't get bought out. Should never have been approved by the FTC.

Yeah, this shit is literally Bell System all fucking over. The FTC and the Justice System fucking failed us again. AT&T was forced to split up its shit, and low an behold...30 years later we are in the same fucking predicament.

Why? Because once again, our government overlords fucking sold us out and allowed all these fucking mergers to occur.

This problem involves both sides. Republicans were taking that sweet tech money too.

Mike Lee comes to mind. Why are both Utah senators so full of shit?

Taken down

Nothing substantial ended up happening to them. The original ruling mandated that Microsoft be broken up but it was overturned. The DoJ and Microsoft ended up settling and Microsoft was forced to provide APIs to third parties and that's about it (in the US).

Bell had far less of a monopoly when they were broken up in 1982 as well.

Didn't Microsoft win their lawsuit?

Edit: ya. Go read the settlement section of the wiki for Microsoft Antitrust. They got a slap in the wrist and actually ended up giving Microsoft a type of Antitrust immunity

Seriously, Linux is the only place left that’s semi-safe from either Microsoft or Apple now.

Pop! OS is actually quite a decent out of the box transition distro for anyone wanting to try it out. Linux is free, so you can download it and run it in the free Virtual Box software to try it out! Also, between the Steam Play/Proton and Lutris apps, gaming on Linux is coming together nicely as well. (That’s my plug, I hate M$)
