Why are there so many large donations from middle eastern countries? Qatar is one of the top funders. Why would Qatar be investing massive sums into these schools? Is it to allow their elites children to attend there?

Yes. My University is full of these individuals, from Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Let me tell you, they are the worlds laziest people and mooch off of others.

I used to work in a lab given a grant by Qatar or UAE.

The grants are for taking on their graduate students and training them in the US to be able to go back to those countries and run research labs over there. Often times US labs will assist in helping them set up research labs overseas.

UAE and Qatar are very interested in finding new revenue sources for when oil runs out.

I'm frankly more worried about the gifts from China, Switzerland, and the Bahamas. China for obvious reasons. Switzerland and Bahamas because they are notorious tax havens for people like Soros and other bad actors.

It's bugging me, I saw a segment somewhere that discussed the massive international financial influence and takeover of American universities by these countries. I cannot remember if it was for money laundering, muslim influence, or something else that is corrupt. It wasn't pretty.

Money laundering and influence buying. They can bribe officials with huge salaries post-government career and get their spawn a fake degree in the same instance.
